Most of us hoped to start 2009 on a positive note, but Burger King was seemingly in a furious state of mind: At the beginning of January, the fast food chain introduced the Angry Whopper to its US menus. News of the limited-edition burger, purportedly only available through the end of March, took the Internet by storm. So after hearing the incessant hype surrounding it, I decided to put the burger to the test.

This weekend's Saturday Night Live featured a spoof of the controversy Whopper Virgin ads by Burger King. In the mock version of the commercial host Neil Patrick Harris acts as a spokesperson for Burger King. It's hilarious, crazy, and kind of sad watching the rural European farmers take apart the burgers, act out an American-style game show, and beg to take the burgers home because it's enough "food to feed his village for the whole month."

As far as controversy goes, one would have thought Pepsi's Suicidal Calorie ads would be hard to top, but a new campaign from Burger King is generating just as much buzz. On a new website, Whoppervirgins.com, Burger King is showing footage of Thai villagers and Transylvanian farmers taking their first bite ever of a hamburger. The film, which was made by Stacy Peralta, the director of acclaimed documentaries like Riding Giants, is being dubbed the world's "purest taste test."

If you're a fan of Burger King, you might not think twice before biting into a Whopper with bacon and cheese. However, you may not be so eager to bite into this specific Whopper because it has 15 times as much bacon as the regular Whopper! I'm a bacon lover, but find this exceptionally excessive.

Remember when I told you that McDonald's was planning on opening hipper McCafes? Well, not to be left behind, Burger King is doing a similar thing. Instead of fancy coffees, they're planning on selling fancier Whoppers at their new Whopper Bars.

How many of you love a big, juicy Whopper? I have to admit, when I was in high school, that was my favorite off-campus lunch treat. There's something about the sauce that just tastes so great.

As we all know, limited edition candy is all the rage these days. For a while everything came with a coating of dark chocolate or a layer of creamy peanut butter. However right now, the trend seems to be the addition of fruit flavors and pink hues.
