Would You Join a Lunch Club?

I'm always talking about starting a Lunch Club - note to Sugar HQ: I'll do it someday, honest - where I organize lunch outings to various tasty eateries. However, I've never thought of starting a Lunch Club where people take turns making food for each other.

I recently discovered a Cooking Light article spotlighting the folks at Room and Board. Apparently they have a Healthy Lunch Club where folks cook for one another. Personally, I love the idea, but think it might create added stress in my life. I can barely find time to make my own lunch! Although, I'm sure once you get into the swing of it, it's probably pretty great. Homemade meals every day? How could you say no?

So tell me, what do you think of the Lunch Club idea? Is this something you'd want in your workplace?

Jamie Oliver and Ryan Seacrest Serving Up Reality Show

Seems Jamie Oliver and Ryan Seacrest have more in common than a shared love of spiky hairdos. They also want to help Americans eat better. The British chef is preparing a new reality show produced by Seacrest, where Oliver will touch down in America's unhealthiest cities and give its residents good-food makeovers using local resources.

This isn't Oliver's first stab at improving the eating habits of everyday folks. In the UK, he has worked extensively on children's nutrition, including a 2005 TV series called Jamie's School Lunches, which prompted education officials to remake school meals. The idea struck a chord with radio host/TV producer Seacrest:

Seacrest said he talked about school lunches during a segment on his KISS FM morning radio show and was struck by the amount of listener response. Then he heard Oliver was looking to bring his public service campaign stateside. The resulting ABC show will not only tackle a city's schools, but workplaces and other avenues for change.

ABC has already ordered at least six hours of the show, which will focus on cities that have shown on up lists of "America's fattest." But ABC exec Vicki Dummer says the point isn't to make fun of Americans: "Jamie has been through this mission before. He will be an advocate for change, but not act like, 'I'm from Britain and you Americans are fat.'"

Taste Test: Domino's Submarine Sandwiches

Last week YumSugar and I got our hands on Domino's recently released hot submarine sandwiches. The sandwiches, which come in four flavors - chicken bacon ranch, Philly cheese steak, Italian, and chicken parm - filled our office with a delicious smell of fresh-baked bread. The sandwiches tasted strangely like Domino's pizza. With its chewy, soft texture, the "artisan Italian bread" tastes like their pizza dough.

Philly Cheese Steak: This was my least favorite of the sandwiches. The meat was bland and the veggies soggy. The sandwich lacked flavor.

Chicken Parm: The tomato-basil marinara sauce tasted like Domino's regular pizza sauce, making this sandwich, with its chicken and two types of cheese, seem like a pizza roll.

Italian: Loaded with pepperoni, salami, ham, and peppers, this was my favorite. It tasted like a slice of Italian pizza.

Chicken bacon ranch: The combination of bacon and chicken paired perfectly, making this sandwich my second favorite. However, I couldn't taste the ranch and wondered if the person who made the sandwich forgot to include it.

Overall, I don't think I would go out of my way to eat these sandwiches. They were greasy, with too much dough and not enough filling, and afterward I felt a little gross. However, if you like Domino's pizza, you'll like the sandwiches. They're also great if you're in the mood for pizza but don't want to order an entire pie to yourself. The individual portions can easily be consumed at a desk or workplace.

Would You Bring a French Press to Your Office?

Recently, we've been assaulted by the aroma of tasty coffee brewing in the Sugar HQ kitchen. Seems that some one has gotten sick of the day-to-day, and has brought in their own delicious beans and a French press. The whole thing got me wondering about the extremes we go to in order to get a good cup of joe. So tell me, would you bring a French press to your workplace?
