Holleighz’ 52 Weeks of Baking – Week 3: Lemon Drop Cupcakes
Earlier this week, my mom celebrated her birthday, and she had one special request – cupcakes from me. Since she lives states away and cupcakes are not exactly the most shippable pastry, this meant a flawless original recipe. Her favorite flavor is vanilla, but she saw my vanilla bean cupcakes already.

Inspired by YumSugar’s “52 Weeks of Baking” and the success of last week’s cupcakes, I have decided to take on my own weekly baking challenge. Of course, I waited until the last day of week two to make this decision, the same day Boston was swept by a massive snowstorm. Ok, I admit, the weather was not that bad, but it was enough to discourage me from trekking across slippery, slushy sidewalks to the grocery.

Holleighz’ 52 Weeks of Baking – Week 5: Asian Spice Cupcakes with Individual Black Pearls
(Yes, I do realize that this is becoming “52 Weeks of Cupcakes”…)
I’m a huge fan of the recent trend of combining chocolate and exotic spices. Somewhere, I heard rumor of black pearl chips, a mixture of dark chocolate and wasabi, and I scoured every Asian grocery in the city for months with no luck. When I came across this recipe for a black pearl layer cake, I was instantly intrigued – it had the same flavor combination in a rich ganache.

I debated whether or not to post these cupcakes. They’re not bad. They might even be good.

This past weekend I decided I wanted to make a home cooked St. Paddy's Day dinner, so I pulled some Yum recipes together that had been hanging out in my favorites for a while, invited a few friends over, and busted out the crock pot.
Yum's Irish Soda Bread
Posted last year as part of the 52 Weeks of Baking, I preferred this recipe to the one posted this year which had raisins and caraway seeds in it.

I am borrowing this idea from some one else, but I like it so much better than making a resolution, which I always break and always feel bad about. Here is my list of 101 things to do by the end of 2008...
