ShopRite supermarkets this week increased their modest reward to customers who bring their own shopping bags - if those bags are reuseable.
ShopRites had been giving customers 2 cents for each bag used, whether they were paper, plastic or cloth, as long as they brought them to the store.
Now, if you merely bring back the paper or plastic bags grocers ordinarily use to pack your order, you still get 2 cents each.

Reusable grocery bags and saving money
According to the EPA, more than 380 billion plastic grocery bags are discarded each year in the U.S. For every one reusable bag you bring to the grocery store, an estimated 1,000 plastic bags will not be consumed. Some stores even pay you 5 cents to 10 cents for each reusable bag you bring!

The plastics industry is spending more than $1 million to fight a surcharge on grocery bags in Seattle.
In an effort to reduce plastic and paper waste, the city council imposed the 20-cent-per-bag charge last year; but the American Chemistry Council(ACC) helped fund a petition drive that forced the issue to a city-wide ballot.

Seattle voters' rejection of a 20-cent fee on plastic and paper bags represents a sound defeat for other efforts in U.S. cities to limit the use of the throwaway bags, plastics industry officials said Wednesday.
A referendum on an ordinance to charge the bag fee at grocery, drug and convenience stores was easily defeated in Tuesday's primary in this liberal city — whose voters are known for taxing themselves to pay for parks, libraries, affordable housing and other causes.

More often than not, when someone is telling me a story all I can think about is that I can’t wait for them to finish so that I can tell my own story that’s not only better, but also more directly involves me.
Nothing sucks more than that moment during an argument when you realize you're wrong.
I don't understand the purpose of the line, "I don't need to drink to have fun."

Well, do you?
Do you lick your fingers to open those plastic produce bags at the grocery store?

Interview with The Guardian newspaper! Enjoy :D
Brandon Flowers sits bolt upright in his train seat. So handsome you feel like putting a paper bag over your head the minute you meet him, his teeth a gleaming testament to the might of American dentistry, he is nevertheless not merely visibly uncomfortable but audibly uncomfortable, too.
