"Home" for the Holidays?
Most of my life I've often wondered why Thanksgiving seemed to be for many families a trigger word for family dysfuction. Why individuals couldn't just let that disagreement with another family member go for one bloody day and enjoy some good food and conversation with more pleasant family members. I have to keep reminding my self that I'm pragmatic by nature and that is apparently unusual. I found an article with some helpful tips. This picture was taken as my daughter enjoyed her first true Thanksgiving meal. She picked at the turkey but gobbled up the sweet potatoes, cranberries and the delicious stuffing. Though her brother was only days old, she gave thanks for being a big sister.

In between keeping her passengers safe and comfortable, Delta flight attendant Robin Schmidt tends to another mid-air mission -- passing journals among the rows so passengers can help her thank American troops. Over the last five years, Schmidt has filled hundreds of passenger-written journals and sent them to the troops she "adopts" in Afghanistan and Iraq. Each year on her birthday, Ann Hernandez and her boyfriend, Alan Tomaska, would settle on the rocky shore of Thacher Island and uncork a bottle of champagne in a toast to the day. When the bottle was empty and the tide going out, Hernandez would tuck a handwritten message inside and Tomaska would hurl the bottle over the rocks and into the crashing surf.
Tomaska considered the ritual a lark.

What I do not understand is why not take the holiday as a time to educate the children. There is nothing wrong with the dress up, children, especially young children learn best when their creativity is sparked. It is a sad day when we begin to take away imagination.
