So today I felt like having some Haitian food and I called (actually begged) my cousin Nikolas to go buy my favorite, "griot" and bring it for me.
Griot is fried pork shoulders and plantains. When it comes with rice is usually called a "griot complet" with just the meat and plantains it's a "griot simple" and here ladies and gents, is my lunch for the day.

In economic stimulus package, arts deserve place in line
Chicago Tribune
Chris Jones
In the recent debate over the Barack Obama administration's economic recovery bill, proposals to spend government money on the arts have become poster children for pork.
"The National Endowment for the Arts," wrote sarcastic editorialists at the National Review last week, "is in line for $50 million, increasing its total budget by a third. The unemployed can fill their days attending abstract-film festivals and sitar concerts."

Friendly fire: NYT hits Obama
By JONATHAN MARTIN | 3/22/09 7:10 PM EDT
The leading liberal voices of the New York Times editorial pages all criticized—and, in some cases, clobbered—President Obama on Sunday for his handling of the economy and national security.
It's not unusual for Barack Obama to take a little friendly fire from the Times. But it's perhaps unprecedented for him to get hit on the same day by columnists Frank Rich, Thomas Friedman and Maureen Dowd—and in the paper's lead editorial.

My mother is a reader of Woman's Day Magazine (whose recipes I usually love) and she passed on these 2 ingredient recipe cards to me. Sure, some of them are a little odd and I will probably never, ever attempt, but there were a few that immediately grabbed my attention and I can't wait to try out! (Pineapple with coconut sorbet...)
If you want the actually cards to print out and some additional ideas: http://www.womansday.com/food/6577/2-ingredient-recipe-cards.html, http://www.womansday.com/food/6373/none.html
Appetizers

Direct heat~
means the fire is directly below the food. This arrangement works well for grilling thin, tender foods such as hamburgers, boneless chicken breasts, fish fillets, and sliced vegetables. These foods develop golden brown and delicious surfaces in the same amount of time that it takes to cook their centers just right.
