Be my Valentine
I think of you often...I do,
From morning 'til evening I do,
When memories bring laughter
Or moments bring pain,
There is faithfulness, too, once again.
And time always shows me
And God always shows me
Both sunshine and rain,
How, we gain yearly
From the love we're share dearly.
So, my dear, my sweet bubbaloo,
Remember our love, dulce bubbaloo,
For we've come so far and there's so much to come
And I have love to yet give
For the life we will live.....together.

The last year of the first decade of this new millenium was just about as bad as it could have been for me personally. But as we begin this new year and this new decade I'm reminded that as bad as I think things are for myself I am so fortunate in so many ways. Two events have triggered this new outlook this week, one of course was the tragedy unfolding in Haiti and the other was learning that a colleague at work was diagnosed with cancer and given days to live. Life is so fragile and I need to get my act together, stop feeling so sorry for myself and become the person that I want to be both mentally and physically.
I've never done anything like this before....this is my first time ever posting a blog on the internet. I'm a private person and always viewed the internet communities as invasive of my privacy. Instead I'm seeing that I need to open up, put myself out there, ask for help, and take some risks. I need to get comfortable with feeling uncomfortable - whether it's about admitting that I drink too much alcohol, I smoke in secret, I am more than 60 pounds over weight, and mentally I'm on pretty shaky ground. I'm realizing that until I face these facts head on and tackle them one by one I'm never going to get anywhere.
Now the good news - I LOVE to exercise! I enjoy eating health food! I have a great job and my career is doing really really well! Add to that that I have two great kids and a husband who tells me he loves me every single day you can see I have a lot to live for and an environment in which I can succeed. But I have to get my head out of the sand and get cranking on this plan to reinvent myself.
My goals are simple....eat right, exercise at least 5 times a week, stop smoking completely, limit my alcohol intake to a glass of wine every other night, and get more sleep. Simple, right! I expect that this blog will help and the community I expect to connect with on Shape will be key to my success. I pledge to check in regularly, be honest, and try to be supportive to other members in exchange for their support.

While she may not appear in It's Complicated, Maggie Gyllenhaal felt a special personal connection to the romantic marital comedy – because of her own parents' recent divorce after 30 years of marriage, the actress told a private, star-studded gathering Tuesday. Gyllenhaal said she laughed and cried throughout the movie, which stars Meryl Streep and Alec Baldwin as a couple trying to sort out their relationship after their legal split. "I'm kind of in the thick of all that, and it's nice to laugh about it a little," said Gyllenhaal, who presented the It's Complicated stars with the best ensemble cast award at the National Board of Review Awards, at Cipriani's 42nd Street in Manhattan.

It finally happened: my boyfriend found the apartment of his dreams! He called me yesterday at work to excitedly tell me that he had gotten the keys and wanted me to come over and check out the new place. As I was driving over, I thought I should do something special to mark this fresh start in his life. I zipped over to the local market and wanted to pick up something different to fit the occasion. As I was looking through the wine selection, I came across Arbor Mist Mixed Berry Pinot Noir. My friend had told me about Arbor Mist just a few weeks ago and how much she loved it. I thought, “perfect, this is just the ticket!”
Once we did a walk-through, we sat on the floor in the lovely living room, and I opened the Arbor Mist and poured it into our move-in china, aka paper cups. We sat sipping this deliciously refreshing wine talking about where the couch would go; I thought it would be nice placed opposite the balcony, but of course he wanted it opposite the TV.
I sat listening to him talk about all his plans for his new place, and I smiled at the special moment we shared over a glass of Arbor Mist. What a great way to kick off his fresh start.
