This is the first year I’ve ever seen all the documentary nominations- normally I only get to about one or two. I don’t know that it was the best year to do this, as 4 out of the 5 dealt with war in some regard (all but Sicko) and only one of them was mildly uplifting (War/Dance) with the other four being wildly depressing. I thought I’d lump them all together, marked with the numbers in which I saw it out of the 39 nominations, rather than giving them each individual reviews.

Some celebrities cash in with wedding or baby photos while those in need of fame try to revive or launch struggling careers with reality shows. Television legend and 70s pinup Farrah Fawcett has figured out a way to turn the most harrowing heath crisis of her life into a documentary that will earn her at least $2 million. If there’s any celebrity story or event that is worth that much money, Farrah’s battle with cancer is definitely it:
She worked a financial deal with “Entertainment Tonight” earlier this year where the show followed her around to treatments and showed Fawcett’s friends videotaping her ordeal.

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A single phone call prompted Madonna to begin charity work in Malawi and it was while making a documentary on the African country's 1 million orphans that she found a baby she decided to adopt.
Premiering at New York's Tribeca Film Festival on Thursday, "I Am Because We Are," which was written, produced and narrated by Madonna, looks at the plight of the children orphaned by the AIDS crisis in one of the world's poorest countries.
Her interest in Malawi began about two years ago after she was contacted by a businesswoman, born and raised in the country, through a mutual friend.

Edward Norton is just one of the many Americans pleased with the outcome of the election. Especially because he produced a documentary on Barack Obama, which was only to air if he got elected.
Well, it looks like Barack and Norton both got their wish.

Ear biting, tattooed face, heavy weight boxer Mike Tyson is surprised that he is still alive and says his past wasn’t pretty. Speaking at a news conference at Cannes film festival, where a documentary of Tyson’s life directed by James Toback is being presented, Tyson said “I’ve lived a wild and strange life.”
Drugs and violence fueled most of Mike’s life and he said:
I’ve used drugs, I’ve had physical altercations with dangerous people, people were angry. I’ve slept with guys’ wives, they wanted to kill me.

This film/documentary really blew one of my good friends and me away! My hubby, through his research, wasn't as shocked...but he was very shocked when he found out this information through his own research. He was really happy to learn this film came out, and that it's so easy for the average person to understand.

HBO is reportedly on the brink of snatching up the rights to a “behind-the-scenes documentary” about Barack Obama, says the New York Post.
The paper says the unfinished doc’s cameras have been rolling for almost two years, and it’s being produced by none other than ‘The Incredible Hulk’ star Edward Norton.
HBO reportedly wants to air the film “within the first 100 days” of Obama’s presidency, if he wins, that is.

There's another Madonna book in the works! But rather than exposing the negative side of Madge, this book will focus on the positive.
Her documentary 'I Am Because We Are' about the plight of the Malawian people is being turned into a photo book.
