I know it is only a short while before my lil ones come home with bags of treats, so I wanted to try to make my own candy! Epicurious had a great recipe for a frightful version of buckeye candy; traditionally it is a peanut butter ball that is then coated in a thin layer of chocolate. With a little creative dunking and a bag of M&M's, these candies are transformed into a spooky, yet, scrumptious monster eyeball.

Inspired by the book Salty Sweets (omg, it's beautiful!) and Bi-Rite Creamery Salted Caramel Ice Cream (I had it this Summer for the first time — major sweet tooth mistake!) I set out to make salted caramels. I used the Epicurious Fleur de Sel Caramels recipe because it popped up when I Googled from the baking isle of Safeway, and borrowed a fancy candy thermometer from my mother (gee wiz, those things are fun). I was careful to not heat the mixture over 248 degrees and the treats turned out decadent and delicious.

I've been trying to dig up a few new recipes, to vary my old standbys.
I like Allrecipes.com, because they have a good, broad selection, user reviews and comments, and you can save the recipes to your "recipe box" (if you register, which is free). I've never gotten any spam from the site.

I never tried the original recipe, but this version turns out a nice moist bread. The banana flavor is subtle, the addition of the blueberries makes it more interesting and the macadamia nuts are a nice buttery surprise. The bran is not noticeable, it might fare well if you upped the bran to 1/2 cup and cut all purpose flour down to 1/4 cup.

OK girls. I tried to find two easy and healthy recipes that are great for the summer. I thought that a fish dish would be awesome and you can't go wrong with a good steak on the BBQ.

NEW YORK - Facebook pushed the boundaries of ad targeting when the online hangout presumed users would want the site to mine their Internet activity.
And its retreat this week — with the decision to make sure users agree first — underscores the risks social-networking sites face in helping businesses employ their wealth of user data to tailor and target advertising messages.
Dozens of commercial Web sites are embedding Facebook's free tool called Beacon to pick up data on users' activity and send alerts to their Facebook friends' "news feeds."
