Hummus is naturally without dairy, but it's such a great alternative appetizer to the usual appetizer fare of cheese and ranch dips. The next time it's your turn to bring the appetizer to a get together, bring the hummus!
1 15-16oz can garbanzo beans (chickpeas), rinsed and drained
1/4 C Tahini (sesame seed paste)
3 Tbs water
2 Tbs lemon juice
1 Tbs olive oil
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp ground cumin
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 Tbs chopped parsley
In a food processor combine garbanzo beans, tahini, water, lemon juice, oil, garlic, salt, cumin and cayenne pepper.

HummusThis is soo delicious! I make it and prepare them in individual containers to bring to work. I like to make big batches of my pita chips in advance also and then put them in portion sized baggies so im all set to go in the morning.

This is the basic recipe, you can change it by adding roasted peppers or sun dried tomatoes.
INGREDIENTS:
4 garlic cloves, mashed
2 15-oz cans of garbanzo beans (chickpeas), drained and rinsed
2/3 cup of tahini (roasted, not raw)
1/3 cup lemon juice
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup olive oil
salt to taste
- If you want to cook your chickpeas, soak them overnight and then cook in water with a dash of oil to soften them, for about 2 hours, don't add salt until they are cooked because that will make them tough.
Put all ingredients minus salt in food processor.

I have been obsessed with making hummus lately. Unfortunately, my first attempt was miserable as I couldn't find tahini (sesame paste) anywhere. I found this recipe on foodtv.com (it's Alton's) and it's wonderful.

Yayita just posted about gyros/kebaps here, and it reminded me of the time I tried to make a Middle Eastern feast.
A few years ago, my sister was coming home for a visit from Paris on an afternoon when my mother had to work late. My mother asked me to pick my sister up from the airport and to make sure she was fed.

Greek cooking offers an incredibly rich and diverse array of foods and beverages that are the culmination of literally thousands of years of living, cooking, and eating. While each Greek meal is fresh and inviting, it is also a trip back through Greece's history.

The names of foods, cooking methods, and basic ingredients have changed little over time.

Box office hit Borat appears not to have translated to the Middle East after Sacha Baron Cohen duped a former Mossad agent into giving an interview.
The Cambridge graduate was in the guise of his Austrian TV personality character, Bruno, and managed to convince Yossi Alpher, a former operative of the Israeli intelligence agency into being interviewed for a new spoof documentary.
Ghassam Khalib, a Palestinian academic, was also tricked into the interview, which could be seen in the final film after its May 2009 release.

I never know what to eat exactly after a workout... I tend to just let my stomach growl and then eat a ton later on. Not a good idea, folks!
