Kale is an extremely healthful leafy green and a more sophisticated cousin to spinach. However, I find kale to be a little bitter for my taste. I just read about "dinosaur" kale, a variety of kale that is sweeter and nuttier than regular kale, nicknamed "dinosaur" for the texture of the leaves.

Headed out of town for a few days so I played around with some things in my fridge that would go bad before I left. Another inspiration for this was a) the cold and b) a lasagna sauce recipe my friend gave me:
1/4 cup red onion, chopped
1 tsp minced garlic (~1 clove)
2 tsp olive oil
2 cups kale, chopped
1 cup spinach, fresh
1 can diced tomatoes
1/2 small can tomato paste
1 1/2 cups basic tomato sauce
2 tsp italian seasoning
1/2 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp freshly ground sea salt
1 tsp cayenne pepper
2 tsp brown sugar
whole wheat rotini, cooked according to package instructions
feta cheese, crumbled
Heat large skillet over medium-high heat. Once heated, add olive oil.

I hope everyone had a nice holiday. I had the honor of cooking dinner for a small group of four people. The meal was vegetarian (actually vegan, except for one dessert), mostly organic, with no added sugar and nothing refined.

There's really nothing more comforting in winter than a bowl of soup. I've never made soup, but I love vegetable purées and I was feeling inspired.
I had never done this before, so I did everything intuitively and used whatever vegetables looked good when I was shopping.

One reader asked to see a sample menu of what I eat in a typical day. I thought this was a great idea, but before I get into it, I thought I'd talk a little about my eating habits.
First of all, I'm a vegetarian.

Go watch this!

And also, I find it so hilarious that it was filmed in Dunder Mifflin. I understand, "oh, we became friends at work", "we got this girl group going on", "let's make a video!"

Most of you probably know who Mindy Kaling is, but if not, she plays Kelly Kapoor on "The Office" and she's also a writer of the show.
She has a hilarious shopping blog that she co-writes with some friends, and she posted this story about the writers' strike.
It's really interesting.

By VIJAY JOSHI, Associated Press Writer Vijay Joshi,
SEOUL, South Korea – North Korea convicted two American journalists and sentenced them Monday to 12 years of hard labor, intensifying the reclusive nation's confrontation with the United States.
Washington said it would "engage in all possible channels" to win the release of Laura Ling and Euna Lee, reporters for former Vice President Al Gore's San Francisco-based Current TV media venture.
