Lindsay Lohan has contacted her legal team after discovering that USA TODAY ran a full page ad about ignition interlock devices that are used to keep impaired drivers off the road. The ad used a mug shot of Lohan stating that it is a good idea for the star but a bad idea for us.
Lindsay’s lawyer Blair Berk issued the following statement:
USA TODAY is idiotic for running such an irresponsible advertisement, suggesting that drinking and driving is some kind of American “tradition” we should protect.

My submission for Casa's "Open House: Renewing Your Home":
I recently acquired a "liquor cabinet" from craigslist. As soon as I saw the picture I could see the potential in it. I love its lines and plan on re-painting it.

Hide your valuables and lock up your liquor: Is that the warning that should herald a visit from Lindsay Lohan? Based on her reputation for having allegedly sticky fingers – with the latest claim from a bar that was nearly left holding the bill for bottles of bubbly – that may not be such a bad idea. Lohan, 23, was partying at the Crown Bar in Los Angeles Nov.

I am planning to include a trio of dessert sauces in my holiday gift baskets this year...a chocolate sauce with rum, a caramel or butterscotch sauce with whiskey and a liquor-infused fruit sauce of some sort. What kind of fruit sauce do you suggest, and what liquor do you recommend in it?

I was reading the NY Times' book reviews and I came across an interesting review on the book, Liquid Memory: Why Wine Matters by Jonathan Nossiter. (262 pp. Farrar, Straus & Giroux $26)
As background, I would hope that every serious wine drinker has seen Modovino by this time, a movie ostensibly about the world wine trade. if nothing else it is fascinating. I will admit here and now that I am no fan of Robert Parker nor of that other popular wine magazine which seems like it is at every checkout counter. however I dislike them for different reasons. Parker, at very least, knows something about wine, but his mere favorable mention of a given wine has been known to send it soaring. There are many popular examples. The other magazine, which shall go unmentioned, has attempted to manipulate wine drinkers into various drining habits. Not without its merits, especially in areas of travel articles, there is a common joke in the wine trade that when a wine is panned in the magazine, it is said that the winery probably forgot to pay its bill.
In any case, I thought this review was a pretty good one, of not only the book but the way in which we find the wine world today, so I am posting it here. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

PHOENIX - Bartender Randy Shields was serving British brews and Arizona ambers as usual at Shady's bar in east Phoenix when he saw a customer walk in with a hunting knife strapped to his hip.
A disturbing image flashed through his mind — "that knife sliding between my ribs."
The customer willingly turned over the knife while he was in the bar, but Shields still worries about a new Arizona law that goes into effect Wednesday that will allow guns into Arizona bars and restaurants that serve alcohol.
