Five years after suicidal zealots crashed planes into our comfortable lives, Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld scolded us: "Any kind of moral and intellectual confusion about who and what is right or wrong can severely weaken the ability of free societies to persevere."
Leave aside Rumsfeld's arrogant and patronizing attitude, showing evident contempt for anyone who didn't agree with his notions of right and wrong. Were we, are we, morally and intellectually confused?

Forum sells 'Obama Waffles' with racial stereotype
WASHINGTON -- Activists at a conservative political forum snapped up boxes of waffle mix depicting Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama as a racial stereotype on its front and wearing Arab-like headdress on its top flap.
Values Voter Summit organizers cut off sales of Obama Waffles boxes on Saturday, saying they had not realized the boxes displayed "offensive material." The summit and the exhibit hall where the boxes were sold had been open since Thursday afternoon.

Breakfast
Breakfast is a simple affair in Brazil: coffee, milk, bread and jam, sometimes cheese and ham, with fresh fruit. My favorite: papaya! In Belém do Pará I also had mangoes and a wonderful avocado cream.
