These spices can be combined in amounts to make specific spice mixtures used in everyday cooking. A very well known spice mixture is the Garam Masala. The word garam means hot, not "hot" as in spicy chili hot, but due to the fact that the spices blended in the mixture are said to increase the body temperature.

My mother is a reader of Woman's Day Magazine (whose recipes I usually love) and she passed on these 2 ingredient recipe cards to me. Sure, some of them are a little odd and I will probably never, ever attempt, but there were a few that immediately grabbed my attention and I can't wait to try out! (Pineapple with coconut sorbet...)
If you want the actually cards to print out and some additional ideas: http://www.womansday.com/food/6577/2-ingredient-recipe-cards.html, http://www.womansday.com/food/6373/none.html

These are so easy to make and if you'd rather, you can use taco shells or flour tortillas. I think the avocado dressing really makes it stand out!
Avocado Dressing:
3 Tbs vegetable oil
2 Tbs cider vinegar
2 tsp minced pickled jalapeno peppers
1/2 tsp sugar
1/2 tsp salt
1 avocado, peeled, pitted and chopped
1 tomato, chopped
2 Tbs vegetable oil
1 clove garlic, minced
2 1/2 lbs chicken breasts, cooked, boned, skinned and shredded (I cut them into cubes and saute in a little olive oil, or I grill them first in the Summertime).

Crunchy Fish FIllets with Lemon Tartar Sauce
The cracker and cornmeal coating makes these pieces of fish crunchy on the outside and moist on the inside. And you won't believe how easy or how delicious heart healthy can be! Note: If you are on a sodium restricted diet, replace the cracker crumbs with crushed cornflake crumbs, and you'll lower the sodium intake by one-half.

4 turkey cutlets (about 1/2 pound each), pounded to about 1/4-inch thick
2/3 cup all-purpose flour seasoned with salt and cayenne
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
2/3 cup low-salt chicken broth
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1 teaspoon chili powder
Cayenne
4 plum tomatoes, peeled, seeded, and finely chopped
4 scallions, minced
2 fresh or pickled jalapenos, seeded and minced (wear rubber gloves)
2 tablespoons chopped dry-roasted peanuts
2 tablespoons minced fresh cilantro
Dredge the cutlets in the flour mixture, shaking off the excess.
In a heavy skillet, heat the oil over moderately high heat until it is hot but not smoking, and saute the cutlets for 1 to 2 minutes on each side, or until they are golden brown on the edges and cooked through. Plate cutlets and keep them warm.

So today classes let out early and my friend and I skipped lunch so that we could go out to eat. My friend wanted McDonalds. None for me, thanks.

The night after my minor brush with someone close to a celebrity, I had a major encounter with some delicious food. This time (as opposed to the rest of the yumness I have enjoyed), I sucked it up and took pictures of everything. The things I do for you, Yum Girls...;).
