When my friend said he wanted a red velvet cake for his birthday, I was picturing something from a box. But then another friend of mine whipped up this very luxurious version complete with butter-cream frosting and chocolate ganache. Oh my goodness, it was tasty.

I am trying to narrow down 5 flavours to sample for a cake for my baby shower and there is something called Red Velvet on the list. The patissier is American so I was thinking someone here could help.
Cheers!

A Three tiered floral fantasy; The top and bottom tier were vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream filling and icing, and the middle tier was red velvet cake with cream cheese buttercream filling and icing.
Calla lilies, daisies, and assorted wildflowers decorated the sides of the tiers, while creeping ivy wound it's way up the sides of the cake.
My mother helped me set up this cake and I don't know where she might have been that day, but her head was not in the game!

We decided to get married in a cave, bat and all - just kidding!! Well, there was a cast iron bat hanging from the entrance of this spectacularly decorated wine cave in Northern California. We invited our closest friends and family and we were absolutely delighted to have the most wonderful designer/florist/renaissance man - John James of San Francisco's John James Designs - transform the cave with his design for our romantic Banquet Celebration - resplendent with the colors of Burgundy, Platinum and overflowing with Sterling Silver Roses. We married in November, so he filled the space with gorgeous roses and fall foliage .

I made this for an avid golfers birthday. The cake is red velvet with butter cream icing and covered in marshmallow fondant. The golfer is made of Gumpaste.

I baked this cake, as well as a red velvet cake with white chocolate and chocolate buttercream frosting for a friend's birthday... unfortunately I got to taste neither of them, although I heard they were quite tasty (I got a MONETARY offer to bake the red velvet for another party... of course I wouldn't charge for it!)
SO, we start out with these ingredients:
1/2 cup butter, room temp
1 1/4 cup brown sugar splenda/ brown sugar
2 eggs
1 cup pumpkin pie filling
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 cups cake flour
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 cup buttermilk
(Preheat to 350) As for most recipes, you just mix the flour together with the other dry ingredients, excluding the brown sugar.
