Tandoori turkey in the oven
For a few years now I've wanted to try to marry the traditional Southern Indian food my husband grew up enjoying with Thanksgiving as I know it (Southern girl with a love of spice and heat).
So this year I did a trial run of a tandoori-style turkey made in the oven. By next year I hope to build my own tandoor, or at least grill this guy, because it needs a little more heat to crisp up properly.

Pale straw in color, this wine has aromas of intensely lifted blackcurrant and nettles, mingled with gooseberry, passion fruit and guava. On the palate, this powerful Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc has a powerful concentration of blackcurrant and passion fruit with a mineral note that gives the palate an intensity that just lasts and lasts. Drinking beautifully now and best enjoyed over the next one to two years.

This wine was featured recently at the restaurant that I work in, and it was a surprise hit! A bargain of a bottle at around $14, this New Zealand wine is unlike most sauv blancs I've come across. A tad bit on the sweet side, with strong notes of grapefruit and apricot, it's well balanced with a slightly herbacious finish.

It's that time of year again! Rochioli recently released their 2005 Estate Pinot Noir, their 2006 Sauvignon Blanc and their 2005 Rose of Pinot Noir. I always look forward to the Pinot Noir and the Sauvignon Blanc and we made a special trip to the Russian River Valley this weekend to pick up a couple of cases.

Welcome to our Valley
The fertile Robertson Valley is the birth place of a wide variety of fine wines. Situated some 160 kilometres from Cape Town, it is bordered by the lower reaches of the Breede River to the south and the spectacular Langeberg Mountains to the north. In this sought-after wine producing region, a variety of meso-climates and soil conditions create a side spectrum of terroirs, allowing us to produce an exciting diversity of wine styles.

I was waiting tables in a noisy lobster restaurant in Maine
when a vacationing Southerner stumped me with a drink order.
I approached the bartender. "Have you ever heard of a drink
called 'Seven Young Blondes'?"

Sake Sangrias
The Japanese beverage isn't just a winter drink. With these cool, fruity punches, it's the perfect summer refresher, too.

Chino's

At this tiny offshoot of Chow Bar, mild Okagura sake, riesling, and brandy make for a sangria that's as crisp as a cool glass of lemonade.
