Choosing champagne or sparkling wine to celebrate the holiday season is a nice low-calorie alternative to spirits or beer, but when I'm craving a cocktail, a plain glass of Prosecco doesn't always do the trick.
If you're looking for a nice cocktail to enjoy this holiday season, try my refreshing rosemary pear sparkler. It makes a great aperitif, and the flavors of pear and rosemary really tie together the feelings of Fall.

It started at German Bakery where I picked up Rohan. No, actually it started the night before when I said I was planning to take off to Lonavla the next day, alone if I had to, and this boy I'd met recently, showed some enthusiasm. The plan took off at that point and we managed to leave the next day around noon.

Although I don't drink beer, there are those of us who are gluten free, and would love to drink "safe" beer. I found this, and I thought I'd share:

Celiacs Guide to Gluten Free Beer
Their battle cry might well be “Down with Reinheitsgebot!” – The German purity law of 1516, the oldest food regulation in the world designed to protect the consumer. By the 15th century, brewing had become a competitive industry in central Europe, one that held the promise of great financial gain for the most successful entrepreneurs.

The Contradictions between the Creationist Movements
A skeptic engages three types of creationists who claim science supports their beliefs, yet they contradict one another

During the tsunami of bicentennial celebrations of Charles Darwin’s 200th birthday in February, I visited the fringes of evolutionary skepticism to better understand how one of science’s grandest theories could still be doubted.
Noah’s Ark Zoo Farm in Bristol, England, is run by a kindly gentleman named Anthony Bush, who insisted that I not confuse him with those “loony American creationists” who think that Earth is only 6,000 years old. “How old do you think it is?” I queried.

Ancient brewery discovered on mountaintop in Perú
Field Museum online expedition still in progress describes discovery of 'Beer of Kings'
Archaeologists discover a 1,000-year-old brewery from the Wari Empire's occupation of Cerro Baúl, a mountaintop city in the Andes. Remains of the brewery were well preserved because a fire set when the brewery was closed made the walls collapse over the materials.
Archaeologists working in southern Peru found an ancient brewery more than 1,000 years old.

Everything is labeled in English and French.
Everything is measured in metric. (No, the temperature does not drop fifty degrees when you cross the border, and the speed limit doesn't double.)
Milk comes in plastic bags as well as in cartons and jugs.

THE other afternoon, my husband and I were drinking beer on the front porch and already feeling a little dirty about what we planned to do later — grill a big fat steak brushed with butter. Then a terrible thing happened.
We saw a registered dietitian power-walking down the block.
