Study: Stress gene may influence PTSD
By Lindsey Tanner - The Associated Press
Posted : Thursday Mar 20, 2008 11:07:01 EDT
CHICAGO — Groundbreaking research suggests genes help explain why some people can recover from a traumatic event while others suffer post-traumatic stress disorder.
Though preliminary, the study provides insight into a condition expected to strike increasing numbers of military veterans returning from combat in Iraq and Afghanistan, one health expert said.
Researchers found that specific variations in a stress-related gene appeared to be influenced by trauma at a young age — in this case, child abuse.

UW-Milwaukee Study Could Realign Climate Change Theory
Scientists Claim Earth Is Undergoing Natural Climate Shift
MILWAUKEE -- The bitter cold and record snowfalls from two wicked winters are causing people to ask if the global climate is truly changing.
The climate is known to be variable and, in recent years, more scientific thought and research has been focused on the global temperature and how humanity might be influencing it.
However, a new study by the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee could turn the climate change world upside down.

According to The Washington Times, the United States may be a secular nation, but its people are anything but.
In fact, 90 percent of Americans have a spiritual interlude with God every day, according to a new study released last week and covered in The Washington Times....
"Most prayer writers imagine a God who is accessible, listening, and a source of emotional and psychological support, who at least sometimes answers back," said Wendy Cadge, a sociologist who directed the research for Brandeis University.

We're playing those mind games together
Pushing the barriers,
Planting seeds
Playing the mind guerrilla
Chanting the mantra, peace on earth
-John Lennon
It's a chilling moment when the light goes out in someone's eyes. A once-radiant child hardens from abuse. A woman's heart shrinks after her husband's abandonment.

A study conducted by UCLA's Department of Psychiatry has revealed that the kind of face a woman finds attractive on a man can differ depending on
where she is in her menstrual cycle. For example: If she is ovulating, she
is attracted to men with rugged and masculine features. However, if she is
menstruating, or menopausal, she tends to be more attracted to a man with
duct tape over his mouth and a spear lodged in his chest while he is on
fire.

Amy Winehouse may be a junkie, but the girl has talent, which is why students at Cambridge University are now analyzing her lyrics as poetry.
Cambridge University students have been asked to compare the lyrics of the pop star Amy Winehouse with the poetry of Sir Walter Ralegh in a final year exam paper.
"Those taking the Practical Criticism paper were given a sheet containing the singer's words to her single Love is a Losing Game and asked to contrast them with a work by the 16th century poet and explorer," reports the UK's Telegraph.
