Salmon at Tangerine

A few months ago I had a fantastic salmon with mango salsa at Tangerine in San Francisco. Tangerine is a casual/almost fancy restaurant. I mean, they can't be that fancy, check it out, they have ikea knives!

This is my new favorite boutique in Bakersfield, Tangerine. I spent all day Saturday inside the store acting as a model. One of my best friends from college, Vikki does the website for the boutique which you should totally check out. She is in charge of photographing all new clothes and uploading the images to the web. Since I was coming down we arranged to do a photoshoot where I would be her model. It was really fun and I got some new fabulous clothes (which I am sure you will see soon in the lookbook). I keep thinking about this awesome dress that I wore in the shoot. I'll fab find it to share with everyone. Sigh.

Sometimes Smaller Is Better

Here's a healthy eating tip from the OnSugar blog Coach Lark Says.

I am continually amazed at how great I feel when I stick to eating small portions instead of stuffing myself until I'm full. Every day I can pull it off, I feel energized and light on my feet.

"Small portions" generally means eating food that is roughly the size of your own fist . . . Like a half a sandwich, a half a cup of oatmeal, or a piece of fruit.

Today, for instance, this is how I ate:

a tangerine at 5:30am
a half a fist-sized portion of oatmeal at 8:00am
a bacon, egg and cheese sandwich (on an English muffin) at 9:30am
a romaine lettuce salad at 12:30pm with carrots, red cabbage, onions, celery, radishes and a little bit of blue cheese dressing
a half an apple and a half a banana at 3:00pm
I worked out at 5:00pm and then had a spicy crab sushi roll right afterward

Now, obviously I'm not on a diet. I allow myself to splurge on goodies like bacon and blue cheese dressing - within reason. I balance it out with a lot of fresh fruits and veggies and fibers. In addition, I drink water all day. Today I had the energy of a super hero! And I can guarantee that I burned off any calories I took in with a balance of activity and allowing my body to properly digest with this "grazing" technique.

There are a lot of gimmicky diets out there, but limiting how much food I put in my belly at any one sitting is the best and healthiest way I know how to manage my weight. I attempt to eat this way every day. It's an ongoing battle to stick to healthy eating habits, but with this tactic, I don't feel deprived and starved . . . ever.

I am not always perfect in my eating habits. Sometimes I do pig out. But I keep trying, and I do the best I can.

My advice is this: If you can pull the small-portions eating plan off for just one day, you'll have created an experiential template going forward. Try it and see how you feel. You'll be inspired, you'll see!

As a dear friend and client said to me this morning, "It seems like we are always fattening ourselves up for the famine that never arrives."

It's time to relax. There is always more food in our future!

Want to buy some candles that actually smell up a room and tired of paying over $20 for just one candle? Even though these candles are a little more than I would pay for on a daily basis, I really LOVE these candles. They are all home made and they really smell up a room and last forever. Plus, I guess I am a little bias because the candles that I bought were from an elderly gentleman trying to make some money. He was at the only booth out of the whole entire fair that did not have a fan or an awning and it was at least 80 degrees out. I could tell that he used most of his money to buy himself a spot. This company not only produces high quality, good smelling candles, but they are one of the nicest companies I have dealt with. Come Party With Me: Gossip Girl Premiere - Drinks

No season premiere party is complete without a special drink, especially if the show in question is Gossip Girl, where the characters seem to be constantly guzzling cocktails. All the recipes I'm making next Monday night were created by acclaimed New York City chefs: Daniel Boulud, Mario Batali, Eric Ripert - Blair and Serena have surely dined at their respective restaurants.

Not to be forgotten is Jean-Georges Vongerichten. The Frenchman came up with this Champagne-based concoction, an elegant take on the classic bellini. Instead of peach nectar, Jean-Georges uses a combination of cherry puree and yuzu juice.

Don't worry if you can't get your hands on fresh yuzu; Vongerichten recommends a mixture of tangerine and lime juice instead. To look at the recipe, keep reading.

I finally got around to organizing and cleaning out all of my makeup, so I decided to take some pictures and share them with you guys. I apologize in advance for the poor picture quality, I didn't have the best lighting.

I just bought the green glass that holds my brushes today at Anthropologie. I hope it will keep them much cleaner than letting them sit on the counter.

Bare Minerals is the only foundation I will use, and I love their 'Mineral Veil' too. The purple stick is Urban Decay 24/7 Concealer in CIA, which I love, and the black stick is Boots No. 7 radiant glow concealer, which I also love.

I know what you're thinking. You're thinking "She has too many mascaras, those can't all possibly still be within the 3 month window", and you're right. Some of them are much, much older, but I still use them. It'll come back to bit me some day with a wicked eye infection, but I can't bring myself to throw them away.

Starting with Lipstick Queen Oxymoron in 'Minor Crisis', then Schweppes orange balm (do not reccomend this, it's hard and not very moisturizing), Korres Pomegranate Lip Butter (love), Victoria's Secret Beauty Rush lip balm, L'Oreal HIP Jelly Balm in 'Delectable' (I really love this stuff, it give plenty of color but is really moisturizing and smells awesome, like cream soda), Aquaphor Healing Ointment, and MAC Tinted Lip conditioner in 'Miss Bunny' in the center (this was a limited edition a few years ago, too cute not to buy, but I think they still have similar products).

Bare Escentuals Buxom lips in 'Melonie', Benefit Her Glossiness in 'Next Question Please' (discontinued), I have no idea what that brownish gloss is or where it came from (just being honest), Benfit The Gloss in corsage (my favorite lip gloss of all time, recently discontinued, I ordered four to keep on reserve), Benefit The Gloss in Kiss Me and No Peeking (also discontinued), Bobbi Brown lip gloss in Tangerine, Lola Cosmetics lip gloss in Ballet Slippers, then two Smashbox samples in Pixel and Catwalk

Estdee Lauder Color Fevershine in 'Tempt Me' (Came as a GWP, but I love it), four Mary Kay lipsticks so beat up I can't even read the names anymore, ditto with the NYC lipstick, then Benefit Silky Finish lipstick in 'Skinny Dip' (a really great color and texture, I recommend this line), and finally CoverGirl lipslicks in 'Daring'

All of my nicer eyeshadows (I have a bunch of older drugstore shadows that don't get much TLC from me, so I'm not going to post them)

I bought these Smashbox eyeshadows in a box set a few months ago (I think it was called 'Rapture' or something similar), and I really love them all, but there are too many to name individually!

The Hard Candy eyeshadows (which I think are sadly now discontinued) are Peppermint Patty, Caramel, and Cotton Candy. The Urban Decay shade at the top is Maui Wowie (which is my favorite shadow color), beneath that is Smashbox 'Flirt', followed by Stila special edition 'Acapulco'.

GWP Estdee Lauder shadow palette. I love using the darker shades as eyeliner.

Bourjois Kohl and Countour in 'Bronze Imaginaire', CiCi 'Beige', Urban Decay 24/7 Glide On Eye Pencils in Yeyo (how appropriate), 1999, Zero, Bourbon, and Stash (my favorite eyeliner ever), Arbonne Eye Pencil in 'Envy', L'Oreal Voluminous eyeliner in 'Black' (this one has a tip like a marker). The pot at the top is MAC fluidline and I'm not sure of the name, but it's something like 'Forest', and you can't tell from this picture but it's very dark green.

Other miscellanous eye/brow products. Benefit Speed Brow (which I use when I want to darken my brows to look more dramatic), Benefit Eye Bright (which I love on the inside corner of my eye), cult favorite Urban Decay Primer Potion (I honestly don't get the fuss, I can't get it to do anything right for me), Benefit shimmer cream in 'It was the Perfect Alibi' (discontinued), and Maybelline Great Lash in clear, which is absolutely necessary for my eyebrows.
