Update
This is my vanilla extract after three months. Although it was already this dark after just two months, I just never got around to taking a picture. :lazy: I've used it several times and it's amazing!

Yesterday, I had a crummy, stressful day at work. It was one of those days when the higher-ups are freaking out about an impossible deadline at the end of the week, getting everyone else all stirred up and anxious, only to find out later that the deadline is actually two weeks away. It was frustrating and tiring.

I recently found this recipe in a free publication from my local co-op. I gave it a whirl this weekend. Aside from being wicked easy and healthy, it was very yummy. If you don't want to deal with the mess of roasting your own pumpkin seeds (but that's the fun part!) you can usually find roasted pumpkin seeds--also called pepitas--in the bulk section of your grocery. Happy munching!
PUMPKIN SEED TREATS
1 1/2 cups roasted pumpkin seeds
1/2 cup dried cranberries
4 Tablespoons honey
1/2 teaspoon orange or vanilla extract
1. Combine the pumpkin seeds and dried cranberries in one bowl.

Every weekend I have this little obsession of browsing through the recipes of Bon Appetit, Gourmet, Martha Stewart & Sunset magazines in search for a little inspiration or a recipe that is unique and fun. This Sunday I had a hankering for something Fall, Halloween themed and Sassy. Something that I could easily ship to work to feed my coworkers and something that I could add a personal twist too.

Hi everyone,
There is a makeup look that will never go out of fashion, that look would be the nude/neutral eye. I haven't done a huge tutorial in a long while, so I wanted to start again with this makeup look for you all. Click the image of the product to go to the producer's website (if it's still sold).

Mexican "Vanilla" With Coumarin: No Bargain
http://www.fda.gov/consumer/updates/mexicanvanilla102908.html
Tourists tempted to pick up bargains south of the border should beware of one bargain that isn't always a good buy—so-called Mexican "vanilla." This flavoring product may smell like vanilla, taste like vanilla, and be offered at a cheap price. But it's often made with coumarin, a toxic substance banned in food in the United States.

I couldn't believe how good these were. The combination of tahini + grain (oatmeal) makes a complete protein.

Holleighz’ 52 Weeks of Baking – Week 5: Asian Spice Cupcakes with Individual Black Pearls
(Yes, I do realize that this is becoming “52 Weeks of Cupcakes”…)
I’m a huge fan of the recent trend of combining chocolate and exotic spices. Somewhere, I heard rumor of black pearl chips, a mixture of dark chocolate and wasabi, and I scoured every Asian grocery in the city for months with no luck. When I came across this recipe for a black pearl layer cake, I was instantly intrigued – it had the same flavor combination in a rich ganache.

on my last grocery trip i splurged a little and bought vanilla beans. i’ve been dying to experiment with them, but at just under $20 for two beans i was a bit hesitant. that’s a lot of money gone to waste for anything less than the spectacular.
