The kitchen at Donald Trump's Maison l'Amitie house. There's a gargantuan fountain in the driveway out front and 475 feet of oceanfront out back.

After a couple of decades of struggling to improve disgusting and inhumane conditions in Pennsylvania kennels, the good guys finally won last fall. Gov. Rendell happily signed Act 119 into law, which made modest improvements to the miserable health and welfare "standards" permitted under existing dog law.

These days all I've been having for dinner is a nice bowl of steaming soup!
I live down in the south hemisphere of the globe, so I am suffering with winter. :(
I see all of these summer posts, I'm so jealous!

Not long ago I had an apple problem. Wavering in the produce section of a Manhattan grocery store, I was unable to decide between an organic apple and a nonorganic apple (which was labeled conventional, since that sounds better than "sprayed with pesticides that might kill you"). It shouldn't have been a tough choice--who wants to eat pesticide residue?--but the organic apples had been grown in California.

Plan your grocery list with these infection-fighting vitamins and foods:
Vitamin C: Oranges, grapefruit, kiwi, berries, carrots, sweet potatoes, sweet pepper, tomatoes, spinach, kale, broccoli, cabbage, and Brussels sprouts are packed with a powerful antioxidant that protects the cells of your body.
Vitamin A (as beta-carotene): Dark green leafy vegetables and winter squashes contain beta-carotene that can protect against cell damage and may enhance immune system function.
Vitamin E: Avocados, nuts, seeds, and wheat germ, as well as tuna, herring, mackerel, and other fatty fishes help make white blood cells that fight infection.

How to kill just about everything (pests and diseases, that is)

"It's whitefly," I said, looking at the brown edges and tiny specks on my son's bonsai maple tree. I reached for the wettex and began to wipe them off the leaves.
