Meet Bols Genever, a compelling new (old) liqueur that's like gin's smooth-sipping cousin. Created in Holland during the 16th century, Genever was the world's first gin. Its taste is different from any other gin on the market.

Some people consider the urban lifestyle totally unhealthy but that does not have to be the case. Urban transportation is usually walking, biking, subway, bus or taxi. Walking can be time consuming and biking seems scary on a road bike with über-thin tires and mountain biking on Park Avenue seems wrong since mountain bikes are, well, made for mountains.

San Francisco's Roxie Food Center is an unassuming corner store, located on an unlikely residential block, that's rumored to have remarkable sandwiches. I've been meaning to try it for months, so a few weeks ago I made a special trip just to get my jaws around one these sammies.
Though the store has all the usual varieties of bread and cold cuts, I'd heard great things about the Dutch crunch rolls, which are topped with a sugary, salty crust.

Dutch doors were originally created to keep animals out of farmhouses, while letting light and air flow in. Also called a stable door, or half door, they're marked by a horizontal division that allows the bottom half of the door to remain shut while the top half remains open. Photo by Laura Resen

With the cold weather narrowing in, I'm starting to crave comforting, slow cooked soups, stews, and sauces. I'd like to know what the Dutch are hiding in their bathrooms! A new survey released yesterday claims that 88 percent of respondents listed a visit to the bathroom as their most enjoyed activity.
I can think of a lot of other things I like more than answering the call of nature.

You've heard of French braids, but have you heard of Dutch braids? The style is similar but just slightly different. (Think of it like knitting, with French braids being the "knit" and Dutch braids as the "purl.") For these braids you actually braid the side strands of hair behind the middle section of hair, instead of on top as with the French style.
