Although cognac is used to make an assortment of specialty cocktails in America, it has only recently been accepted as a mixing ingredient in French bars.

It's with utmost sadness that I report that one of our favorite online retailers, eLuxury.com, is planning on closing its retail operation over the next six months. While many shops are closing due to the recession, it is said that eLuxury's closure isn't due to its financial performance. Rather, it's because many of the brands it carries have their own online presence.

Despite the current economic downturn, luxury brand LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton stays resilient as its sales figures show profits of over $17 billion dollars to date.
Though profits aren't as high as earlier this year, LVMH, which houses its namesake line along with other high-end labels such as Celine and Givenchy, reports a 9 percent growth in its business. Other top French retailers report up to a 10 percent loss in sales.

Eva Mendes took a break from all her Fashion Week duties last night to attend a screening of The Women in NYC with her costars Jada Pinkett Smith, Meg Ryan, and Debi Mazar. Unlike last week's big premiere in LA, Annette Bening and Debra Messing sat this one out, but Julia Stiles and Bette Midler stepped in. Even Mick Jagger, who is one of the film's producers, joined them for the afterparty at the Gramercy Park Hotel — though it probably wasn't hard to convince him to spend the evening surrounded by beautiful ladies.

Matthew Williamson's time at Italian design house Pucci might be coming to an end. WWD is reporting that Emilio Pucci is currently searching for design assistants to replace the British boho designer who is about to open a store in the US. Williamson's own brand has gone from strength to strength and early next year he is due to open a US flagship in Manhattan's meat-packing district.

Don't mess with fashion giant LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton.
After a two-year trial, a French court ordered eBay to pay up for selling counterfeit items on its online auction site and for selling genuine goods outside LVMH's retail channels. The penalty was a whopping 40 million euros, or $63.2 million at the current exchange rate.
