Today is National Chocolates Day, and since it's not chocolate but chocolates, I can only assume that it's referring to individual confections. While it seems a bit clichéd, sometimes the best thing is a box of mixed chocolate treats. You get the gooey caramel centers, the flavor infused truffles, and everything in between.

With tomorrow being Halloween, we've unofficially opened the Pandora's Box that is Fall sweets season. That's why the Field Guide to Candy ($16) couldn't have come at a better time. Pastry chef Anita Chu, who authored the Field Guide to Cookies, has come out with a second book, which promises to teach you "how to identify and make virtually every candy imaginable."

My daughter is obsessed with tea parties. I love watching her gather her stuffed animals around the table and serve them cups of her finest brews, but I've been hesitant to buy her an actual tea set because the only ones I've seen are made with questionable paint sources and plastic.
The eco-conscious company Green Toys makes a tea set that will leave the worrisome mother gleeful.

Northumbria University graduate Jack Bresnahan's biodegradable, plastic lids turn your used tin cans into household containers. Here, a basic can has become a vase, and other lids include a soap dispenser, sugar caster, tea and coffee canisters, toothbrush holder, money box, and desk organizer. While tin cans can be recycled, many are tossed irresponsibly and end up in a landfill.
