There are several reasons why Halloween is one of my favorite holidays: First, it's the only day when it's legitimate to wear the most outlandish thing you can think of and get away with it. Furthermore, it's a permissible excuse for adults to return to their youth, reveling in haunted houses and other spooky surprises. And last, but not least, it's entirely acceptable to exchange (and eat) unlimited amounts of candy. I enjoy changing the look of my kitchen in order to go with the weather and season. However the basics — things I rarely change — are in black and white. Filling a kitchen with black and white accessories creates a wonderful foundation for decorative accents. To get in the Christmas spirit I will add red and green. For New Year's, I'll ditch those and supplement silver and gold.

This time of year, there are many different pink products available to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. TeamSugar bookmarked a few delicious cookies, tatti33 found these cute cupcakes, and I bookmarked a few more to make the list more robust. From cookies to cupcakes — aren't these Eleni's Reach for the Cure cookies adorable? — there's something out there for every sweet tooth. If you don't have time to actually bake for the cure, then have someone else do it. This way you can help raise money and awareness, and still shove sweets in your face!

Yum Market Finds: Baking Must Haves

To be an extraordinary baker like YumSugar, not only do you need skills, patience, and time to practice, but you need the necessary tools as well!

As I was looking through the Yum Market on TeamSugar, I noticed that you've saved a lot of the essential basics. Now is a good time to take a look through your cabinets and pantry to make sure you have plenty of sugar, flour, and baking soda for the upcoming holiday baking.

Also check for the important equipment: kitchen timers, mixing bowls, cookie sheets, measuring cups and spoons. If you are more advanced, you may want to get some of the special extras highlighted below. A cake decorating gadget, pie caddy, springform pan, and cake stand are all fabulous to have, but not 100% crucial.

I plan on adding this cute little individual pie slice pan to my growing collection of baking tools. Found by ljc_sugar, this will be wonderful for pies, puddings, soufflés, mini cakes, and much more.

In my opinion spices and herbs are a must in any kitchen. They provide flavor, heat, and freshness to a dish. Without these fragrant ingredients, chicken would be boring and bland, steak would be tough and plain, and salad dressings would be oily and pointless.

As I was browsing through the Yum Market, I was reminded of their extreme culinary importance. There were lots of different bookmarks relating to spices and herbs.

If you have space for a garden, grow your own herbs fresh. If you don't have space, think about housing a growing kit or eggling in your kitchen. Organize spices by frequency of use and flavor pairings. Put dried herbs like oregano and thyme in one area and powders like cumin, cayenne, and paprika in another. Yum Market Finds: Halloween Williams-Sonoma Style

Is it just me, or does Halloween arrive earlier each year? My local stores have already created their candy aisles and the costume shops are ready for business. In fact, yesterday I received the new Halloween-filled Williams-Sonoma catalog and, judging from the contents of the Yum Market, I wasn't the only one. TeamSugar member tatti33 must have received her copy too, as she has bookmarked nearly every single item in their Halloween collection!

Some of my faves include the Great Pumpkin Pan, the 3-D Cookie Cutter Set and the Kid's Spiderweb Apron. What do you think? Which is your favorite?

Are you ready for fall's arrival? As much as I hate to see summer go, there comes a time when one must prepare their kitchen for fall. So put away the ice cream maker and sangria pitchers, and make room for the dutch oven and teapot. Today I checked out the Yum Market on TeamSugar to see if you had any ideas for an easy summer to fall transition. Start by dusting off your favorite mugs and cleaning out your oversized thermoses. At the grocery store get the fixings for a whole wheat apple pie and stock up on your favorite, warming tea. Pumpkin butter tastes delicious on breakfast toast and afternoon snack crackers. Splurge on individual French onion soup bowls that can double as creme brulee pots. Yum Market Finds: Kitchen Kitsch

This week when I was browsing the Yum Market, I came across a lot of funny little things that made me laugh. It seems kitsch, that fine line between artsy and tacky, has found a suitable place in the kitchen. Kitchen kitsch comes in many different forms and flavors: ghost salt and pepper shakers, pig snout shaped salt holders, or egghead measuring cups to name a few. This bee shaped honey jar, found by laura1867 is a perfect example of a kitchen tool that is chic, weird, and cool all at the same time. If you want to add some humor to your kitchen, one or two pieces are fabulously fun, but an entire kitchen will look garish and gaudy. I always find it interesting when someone takes the time to put together a collection in the Yum Market. A little while back I highlighted c0rkie's obsession with pocky, but it pales in comparison to LauraPalmer's selection of Hello Kitty kitchen tools. Whether you are looking for a Hello Kitty popcorn maker, Hello Kitty shaped ice cubes, or even a Hello Kitty microwave, she has found it for you.

I'm a fan of Hello Kitty as much as the next girl, but a kitchen that looks like a Sanrio store exploded inside might be going too far. As far as collections go though, it definitely is fabulous. Check out all the cool stuff by scrolling to the right below.

Yum Market Finds: Interesting Kitchen Tools

I know that you gals aren't really fans of unitasking kitchen gadgets, but as I was looking through the Yum Market, I couldn't help but notice quite a few interesting kitchen tools. Some are incredibly over priced, but some I might actually consider getting. Check out this red, collapsible funnel, for example. A funnel is a kitchen accessory that I do not own and never think to buy when I'm out at Williams-Sonoma. However, every few months I curse myself while running around the kitchen attempting to make a funnel out of foil. If I just sucked it up and got this handy one that can easily fit into any flat drawer, I would never be faced with this problem again.
