For my Spring picnic, I knew apple pie had to be on the menu because it's the quintessential American dessert. The only problem is pie isn't the most picnic friendly of meals. Unlike cookies or brownies, pie just does not transport easily.

You know Thanksgiving can't be too far off when you spy pumpkin pie flavored Clif Bars at your grocery store. Drawn in by the allure that surrounds special holiday flavored foods, I had to have a taste. Plus, I really love pumpkin pie.

If you live in the Big Apple or plan to visit there in the near future, you'll be happy to know that the trans fat ban will be in full effect by today, July 1. Exactly a year ago, all restaurants were required to eliminate trans fat from their cooking oils, margarines, and shortenings. This second deadline states that all prepared foods from restaurants, bakeries, cafeterias, salad bars, and food carts must contain less than .5 grams of trans fat per serving.

I am a huge fan of LARABARs, as you all must know by now. I've raved about their Cashew Cookie, their Banana Cookie, and the Jocalat bars too, but I really do love all their flavors (except for the Pistachio, but that's just me).
I always keep half a dozen different kinds lying around, just in case I need a pre or post workout snack.

Even if you're trying to lose a few pounds or stick to your health kick, I don't recommend ever giving up the foods you love. Moderation works for me (most of the time), but when I can't hold myself back from devouring more than just a few tasty bites, I try to make or find healthier alternatives. Here are some of my favorites.
