Chain Restaurant Food or Band Name?

I was talking to a friend of mine and she mentioned how the dishes in chain restaurants always have ridiculous names. She thought that a breakfast dish at Baker's Square - called Chorizo Skillet - sounded a bit like a bad band name. Can't you see it now? Hey guys we're going to go see Chorizo Skillet this weekend! I suppose it could be worse; it could be Jimmy Eat World - real band name - or G Love and the Special Sauce - another real band name.

Buzz In: What Are Your Favorite Band Names of All Time?

See those fine young chaps to your right? They're the members of Does It Offend You, Yeah? - the British rock band that possesses my current favorite band name. It's a tough award to win, especially with so many other good contenders out there right now (including Someone Still Loves You, Boris Yeltsin, which comes in a close second).

Band names can convey so much, from a sense of what the music might sound like (the Weepies or the Ditty Bops) to an appreciation of music history (Pretty Girls Make Graves, named after a Smiths song) to a strange and baffling inside joke or reference (Architecture in Helsinki, Better than Ezra). Of course, then there are band names that are just purely ridiculous - Hootie and the Blowfish comes to mind - but in general, I like it when bands take a risk with names that are almost guaranteed to stick in my head.

So, I'm wondering: What band names are your all-time faves? And do you like them most for their quirky references, sense of history, or pure chuckle-worthiness?

I know I've given many a band a chance because I loved their name, either to be thrilled they were amazing or annoyed that they sucked. Mutya Buena Applies For Rights to the Sugababes Name

Mutya Buena has applied for ownership of the Sugababes name, naming her two fellow original Sugababes on the document - Siobhan Donaghy and Keisha Buchanan. None of the original three members are in the current formation of the group, who celebrated their album Sweet 7's launch last night. If Mutya wins ownership of the name she will have the right to use the band name on any entertainment products of her choice, and it's likely that the current lineup - Heidi Range, Jade Ewen and Amelle Berrabah - will be unable to use the name. When Keisha - the last original member of the group - left, Mutya stated:

"It just means the Sugababes have ended because there are no original people remaining. It kind of doesn't make sense that there is Sugababes any more. I don't know if it's just me, but Keisha being the original that was left out of the band, her leaving doesn't make it Sugababes really."

She also hinted that she'd love the original girls to get back together. The law firm that put forward the application on behalf of Mutya, Kilburn and Strode, said they are "hopeful" registration will be passed in a few months.
