Featuring finches, lories, and parakeets behind a delicate copper wire, the Anthropologie Songbird Chandelier ($798) is a bit gimmicky, but I can still definitely see its appeal. It would look great along with some busy, bird-themed wallpaper — like the one in Domino editor Rita Konig's foyer. But for a piece that requires a very specific design scheme, I certainly wouldn't spend nearly $800.

With the birth of this lil one, the Miami Metrozoo became the second zoo in the US to ever successfully breed the rare Harpy Eagle. Check out this baby and learn a bit more about the species in this slideshow.

Since childhood, I've made it a tradition to read "The Raven" by Edgar Allen Poe every October. It puts me in a spooky, Halloween mood, and always gives me a case of the shivers. Besides serving as the topic of Poe's famous narrative poem, ravens are also a huge influence in the world of design.

I've got a good pal in NYC who, after wanting a dog for several years, finally committed upon spotting a box of abandoned puppies at a local market. Even seeing shelter kittens on cages streetside on sunny days or finding fishy faces at a pet store, I would often wish I could take one home.
Similarly, during a trip to the California Pet Center near Calabasas on Wednesday, Britney Spears went in to pick up some dog food .

We may know a thing or two about crazy dog names and even crazy cat names, but Zootoo rounded up the top registered pet names for other animals from horses and hamsters to fishes and ferrets. If you've ever owned different creatures (or need inspiration for future, less traditional pets), check out the findings for eight species and my special additions to each list.

Back in 1984, a designer by the name of Norman Earl created the aptly-named Soda Bottle Bird Feeder ($15). The cast zinc contraption seen on the right is an eco-tastic solution — simply fill any two-liter plastic jug with seed to feed chickadees, robins, and other birds that favor hanging feeders. Better yet, it solidly screws on to keep those unwanted four-legged pests guests like squirrels out of the flutter's dining establishment.

Tweet tweet, I'm on Twitter, North's on Twitter, are you on Twitter? For the still unfamiliar, it's a super easy outlet for that stream-of-consciousness pet voice and an addictive way to keep updated and update pals with thoughts, plans, and more.
Twittering pets doesn't seem to be a trend that's ending anytime soon so check out these twitter-inspired goodies I've hunted down.

Jonathan Adler has harmoniously merged two of my favorite trendy motifs, teardrops and birds, in his new Pop Menagerie Bird Box ($68), and I totally approve. At 10-by-5.5 inches, this little porcelain box won't hold much, but it will bring some whimsical geometric color and pattern into any room. I'd use it to hold keys in an entryway or jewelry on a nightstand.
