Natalie Portman in brilliant blue stole the spotlight last night at a screening of Brothers in NYC. One of her two leading men, Tobey Maguire, joined her on the red carpet along with his wife Jennifer Meyer, though Jake Gyllenhaal missed the event. Amanda Peet was right by her husband David Benioff's side, supporting his latest screenwriting effort.

The trailer for new movie Brothers has just made it's debut, featuring Natalie Portman, Tobey Maguire and Jake Gyllenhaal. Since watching the clip it's become one of my most anticipated upcoming releases. The movie is the story of a man who comforts his older brother's wife and children after he goes missing in Afghanistan.

Based on Susanne Bier's 2004 film and directed by Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father), Brothers tells the story of a young man (played by Jake Gyllenhaal) who "comforts his older brother's wife and children after he goes missing in Afghanistan." The older brother is played by Tobey Maguire and the wife is played by Natalie Portman, and from the looks of the trailer, the wife ends up getting very close with her brother-in-law, which causes some tension when her husband returns home from war.
For whatever reason, I have a hard time buying Portman as a mother of two but otherwise the movie looks intense and heart-wrenching.

With Fox's Fall schedule announcement this morning, the craziness of network Upfront week is officially under way. In just a second, I'll share videos and photos of the six new Fox shows, but quickly, a few thoughts on the schedule:
- Fringe on Thursdays? Seems risky to me — even if, as Fox's entertainment guru Kevin Reilly pointed out this morning, both Grey's Anatomy and CSI are down this season.

Fox kicked off network Upfront week in New York this morning by announcing its Fall schedule, and here's a headline right off the bat: So You Think You Can Dance, Fox's summertime dance competition show, is getting a Fall edition as well.
The show will air in an American Idol-like fashion, with a two-hour performance show on Tuesdays and a one-hour results show on Wednesdays. That Wednesday show will lead into Glee, the musical dramedy that has its sneak peek after Idol this week.

Jake Gyllenhaal had his twenty-seventh birthday on Wednesday (happy belated!) but his celebration doesn't look quite as much fun as Brad Pitt's was the day before. Instead, Jakey G was hard at work on the set of his new movie Brothers in New Mexico. We're hoping that he'll have a few more loved ones by his side for the holidays next week — whether it be with his sister in NYC or his girlfriend in LA or maybe as one big happy family with both.

I hold a dear place in my heart for the foodie who loves cheese. My older brother is one of those fromage fools who instantly knows his Parmesan from his pecorino. To help him become the master of mold, I plan on getting one of the following gifts.

The Afflecks — they're both talented, good looking and wealthy, so how could you choose between the two — or do you have to? Ladies, tell me, would you ever date brothers? If it didn't work out with one of them and you started developing feelings for the other one, be honest, would you ever go for the brother of your ex?

Natalie Portman looked adorable in her LBD giving a talk at Stanford in Palo Alto yesterday. She had a huge grin on her face, but the subject matter was definitely serious —she talked to the students about global poverty and her Village Banking Campaign, which she launched back in May. We bet lots of students came out to see Natalie, and hopefully they also learned something about doing good in the process.

This is a good-looking love triangle.
Natalie Portman has signed on to star alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Tobey Maguire in a remake of Susanne Bier's Danish-language film Brothers. Writer/Director Jim Sheridan (My Left Foot, In the Name of the Father, In America) will direct.
