If you're fishing for compliments, you may want to check out this Goldfish Candy Dish ($27.99). It's made from thick walled glass and rests on your counter or desktop. I think it looks fun full of goldfish crackers, but other than that, it's not reeling me in.

Half the fun of trick-or-treating is the bartering that takes place after you've gone door to door. I remember sitting on the kitchen floor with my siblings or friends and saying, "I'll trade you my Snickers for your Milky Ways." Besides Milky Way, I was especially fond of Nerds, Junior Mints, and Airheads.

We never had much candy in my house when I was growing up, as my parents wanted to encourage us to eat healthy as much as possible. Every October, I would count down the days to Halloween, when I knew I'd be going trick-or-treating. I looked forward to all candy, but in particular, I loved Baby Ruth bars.

I finally dished out $10 (well, $24 if you count my popcorn, candy and soda!) to see This Is It, and while it was fascinating to see Michael Jackson's backstage persona on the job, I was particularly struck by the awe his backup dancers had for him. The documentary opens with an emotional scene of the crew sharing their audition tales — shot before MJ's death — and throughout the film we see the chosen few standing stage left grooving to Michael's sound checks. It's clear from their tears, stories, and smiles that the dancers worship his professional history.

Whether you're visiting the pumpkin patch, carving pumpkins, or trick-or-treating, most every family has some sort of Halloween tradition they follow year after year. Some do all or none of the above. As my children grow older, it is apparent that our once simple night of staying in and greeting neighborhood goblins is over and a long list of parties and candy collecting is ahead.
