The theme for the cuisine at my half-birthday housewarming is Italian. I'm serving a spread of store bought and homemade goodies and naturally, one sweet treat. Classic tiramisu is my favorite Italian dessert, but it's not too cocktail party friendly.

Because I love baking cakes and cupcakes, whenever it's a friend or family member's birthday, I am the designated dessert maker. What I don't enjoy is having to transport the cake or cupcakes to the birthday party location. It can be really stressful — especially living in San Francisco where there are so many hills!

This year for Valentine's Day, I wanted to make something special for my nonexistent boyfriend, but I couldn't decide between luxurious red velvet cake or rich fudgey brownies. Here, devil's food-fanatical alpha males can choose from flavors like Jackhammer and Driller.

I know the majority of you love cupcakes, but now I'm wondering how you feel about cupcakes with human faces on them — and not just any faces, but the vampire and werewolf from the upcoming New Moon. These cupcakes are currently on sale at the Sweet Avenue Bake Shop in New Jersey. Personally, I prefer cupcakes with a simple, smooth, and creamy frosting, but if I had to choose, I would pick a Team Jacob cupcake.
