While we do have a dishwasher, I find that I am a much better dishwasher than it is. Plus, I hate waiting until the dishwasher is full to run a load. There's something that bothers me about knowing that the dishwasher is half full of dirty dishes.

Single-use, to me, usually means extremely unfriendly to the environment, but the Seventh Generation Automatic Dishwasher Detergent Pacs may be changing my mind. These single-use packets come in a recycled paper package, 15 tablets to a package. The small box it comes in can be flattened and recycled, and the only waste is the small rezippable plastic bag the tablets come in, which could easily be reused for storing any number of small items.

It may seem like a no-brainer, but if you're hosting a party (any kind that involves food) get in the habit of checking the dishwasher before the the soiree starts. Parties always generate a lot of dirty dishes, and the last thing you need after a night of wining and dining is a sink full of dirty dishes. It's also a good idea to take out take out the trash and recycling before the event begins.

If you have a dishwasher, toss your dish-cleaning sponge into the dishwasher on the top rack once a week. It'll keep your sponge and the pots, pans, and dishes that you wash by hand so fresh and so clean. That way, you can reuse your sponges over and over rather than buying new ones when they get yucky.

Kym Douglas and Cindy Pearlman, authors of The Black Book of Hollywood Diet Secrets, appeared on The Early Show this morning to give away some of their secrets. While they mostly spilled the beans on diet tips, there was one thing that stood out to me: dishwasher salmon. That's right I said dishwasher.

Either the people at Part Select — an online part store for major appliances — want to show you what you can do with your dishwasher, or they're hoping you'll do it and break it in the process. At least, that is what I assume was the logic behind their recipe for Dishwasher Lasagna Florentine. That's right, you make the lasagna in a dishwasher.
