Are the fairy tales we grew up with (not to mention our parents and grandparents) too scary and politically incorrect for our children? According to a nationwide survey in Great Britain, The Baby Website found that one in four moms forgo classics such as Sleeping Beauty and Little Red Riding Hood over The Very Hungry Caterpillar or The Gruffalo.
Traditional fairy tales were first popularized in the early 1800s with the publishing of The Brothers Grimm's Fairy Tales in 1812 and Hans Christian Andersen's Complete Fairy Tales and Stories in 1835.

I found out that today is Tell a Fairy Tale Day and that got me thinking about fairy tales and food. Surprisingly, food plays a significant role in a lot of fairy tales and fables. I'm going to describe each fairy tale and you tell me which food goes with it.

The View was filmed at The Walt Disney Studios in LA this week, and every morning, a different Disney character escorted the ladies on stage. This of course sparked conversations and nostalgic memories about the women's favorite fairy tales from childhood, but it also brought up some food for thought. Though the stories of Bambi, Pinocchio, and Cinderella are all moral tales, their lessons can be both sad and scary, and they also have the ability to send the wrong message to kids — as we all know, not every tale ends in happily ever after.

Finding a baby gift that's unique and personal can be tough. When my daughter received the My Very Own Name book, I was so touched. A dear friend of ours had put so much thought into the gift.

We all know that story book characters always have a happy ending, and while every little girl grows up to expect the same fairy tale finale, unfortunately there are no guarantees. Now back to make believe!!
If you could play the female character in any fairy tale, whose happily ever after ending would you want to be your own?

As a kid, did you dream about letting your hair down like Rapunzel? Live Science has conducted an exposé on some our favorite fairy tales, and it turns out that certain authors (ahem, Hans Christian Andersen) were not very good at their beauty fact checking.
If it were actually possible to grow hair to 100 feet or more, I would like to think that a prince would have no problem scaling the lovely locks (ignoring the split ends!) to rescue Rapunzel from captivity.

Mirror, mirror on the wall, who's the fairest of them all? I recently saw the movie Enchanted and fell in love with Giselle's long, flowing hair and ethereal beauty, so I decided to take myself for a nice long walk down memory lane and have a look at some of my favorite fairy-tale princesses and heroines.
Can you name the specific beauty traits of each of these fairy-tale characters?

Swedish blogger Design Delight recently took a trip to London and visited the new Anthropologie store there. She snapped this photo of a display bed made from piles of logs, and I'm absolutely in love with it. It's so magical looking, straight out of a fairy tale.

In anticipation of Wednesday night's Sex and the City movie screening, I've been inspired to create some home décor looks based on a few of the most striking getups from the series. Here, Carrie's green ensemble of a Givenchy fern print skirt, floating "polka square" belt, and beaded tiara is downright kooky.
To see a look I created inspired by this fairy-tale ensemble, read more
