Off to Market: Peeler

When I moved out of my parents house they were kind enough to give me a wide selection of kitchen tools. However, the peeler I ended up with is older than me! After struggling to peel one too many apples, the time has come for a shiny, new peeler. Can you help me find it? Look for a durable, dishwasher-friendly peeler that can slice through the thick skin of butternut squash. Bookmark the peelers in the Yum Market on TeamSugar with the keyword tag, Peeler. I'm curious to see your discoveries!

Read geeksugar's guide to bookmarking to better understand how to this fun feature works.

To see where I like to shop for all my culinary needs,

Pizza Pro Slicer: Love It or Hate It?

The first thing I thought when I came across this Pizza Pro pizza slicer ($19.99) was genius!

Then I imagined using it. The scissored spatula looks like it might be difficult to maneuver. Also, what happens when you prefer a larger piece of pizza? Or when it comes time to wash it?

Still, it's an interestingly designed product. Has anyone tried it?

Discover the True Lobster Claw Game

I used to be really good at those arcade claw games. Like, way too many poorly made stuffed animals in my house sort of good. I'm pretty rusty these days, but I might have to start training again. You see, the Love Maine Lobsters Co. has created an actual lobster claw game where you catch live lobsters!

For two bucks — a pretty good deal if you think about the high cost of lobster — you can try and bring home dinner. They say the device is gentle and slow-moving, therefore it doesn't hurt the lobsters. But I don't know. You're already going to take them home and eat them; do you really need to ridicule them as well?

The tanks hold 25 to 30 pounds of lobster and is in bars all over the country. You can find similar models in Asia and California. But what I want to know is, what you would do if you came across one at a convenience store near you?

To check out how the machine works, view the video when you

Wake Up and Smell the Oatmeal!

There are some pretty fun alarm clocks out there, but this weekend the internet was abuzz over a different kind of alarm clock. According to Scotland's Daily Record, Quaker Oats is testing a bedside alarm in the UK. Now you'll be able to wake up to a warm bowl of porridge or oatmeal each and every morning.

The device, which is called The Porridgemaid, contains a thermos to keep the milk cold overnight. However, once the alarm goes off, the thermos is heated up and in three minutes you've got yourself a bowl of breakfast. In our ever increasingly fast-paced lifestyles, I suppose every minute counts. However, I could see myself reaching for the snooze button and putting my hand right into a bowl of porridge. It also reminds me of the episode of The Office where Michael cooks his foot, and we all know that that was a completely bad idea. What do you think!?

Source

Scared of Tap Water? Get an iStraw!

I know a lot of folks who won't go near tap water. They are terrified of dirty water and need to make sure it's filtered. While that's not an unreasonable request, it's sometimes difficult. What if there is no water filter? Or what if you're traveling? This is where the geeky iStraw comes in hand. This compact, portable device purifies water and reduces up to 99.99999% of all waterborne bacteria. It's good for up to 500 liters of water and supposedly leaves no after taste.

I think this is pretty fantastic and can see where it would come in handy. Sure your friends might laugh at how over-cautious you're acting, but who'll be laughing when they get sick from drinking the water and you don't? Available for £19.99 (approximately $40).

Source: TrendHunter

Fry French Fries With Only One Spoon Of Oil

What if I told you that you could make the perfect French fries with only a spoonful of any oil? You'd probably tell me that I was crazy and that I should stop dreaming. Well, it's time to wake up, because the folks at Tefal have actually come up with a device that allows you to do just that. The ActiFry will allow you to prepare genuine fries with just one spoonful of oil! The patented technology circulates hot air around the fries, while the mixing paddle disperses the oil. The technique results in fries that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. Personally I think it sounds too good to be true, but you know I'd give it a try. Well maybe if it wasn't for the $300 price tag...

What do you think? Would you give it a try?

To check out a video of the ActiFry in action,

Get Your Grill On - Even In Small Spaces

Well folks, summer is just around the corner, and summer season means grilling season! For those of you with a backyard or a nice patio, this is great news. But what about those of you who live in tiny apartments? Well don't fret; there are actually a couple of ways for you to get your grill on.

First is the Portable Picnic Grill from Sagaform. It's a sleek briefcase-sized box that quickly transforms into a mini-grill complete with spatula and turning fork. If you don't have space in your backyard, take it to the park, beach, etc. Costs $35.

The second option is for those of you with balconies. You may have seen this a while back (it seemed like it was all over every gadget blog on the planet), but the Bruce Grill is designed to hang off the edge of your balcony railing (similar to flower boxes). I think it's a fantastic idea, although I do have to warn you, this is probably not legal in most apartment complexes.

Got any other great ideas for small-space grilling? Let us know below!

Man there are some crazy cool contraptions out there in this world! And I don't mean just gadgets and gizmos that geeksugar would be interested in. I'm talking about little devices that are perfect for the ultimate hostess. For example, take a look at this cupcake travel protector. Isn't it the worst when you spend a whole bunch of time decorating cupcakes only to have the frosting smeared when you pack them up? Now we can avoid that problem with this amazing little safety box that eruntale discovered!

Two more useful apparatus, so

The Ultimate Kitchen: Food Processor

We've covered a few super basic kitchen necessities lately, so I thought today's Ultimate Kitchen would be a food processor. Now, food processors aren't absolutely necessary, but they really do come in handy. I use mine all the time for pesto, salsa, pizza dough, and a number of other culinary creations. When choosing a food processor the biggest concern should be size. Now you might think to yourself, it's just me, I only need a three cup food processor. However I'd think again, most recipes are going to be much larger and you won't be able to do things like pizza dough or bread. Also be sure the base is strong and sturdy, the heavier the base, the less likely it is to move around.

The one that I'm considering (ours recently broke) is the Cuisinart Classic. It has a 7 cup capacity and includes several extra blades and discs (steel blade, dough blade, slicing disc and shredding disc). Like most food processors it also has an extra-large feed tube for large food slices. However one of the great features is that the pusher has a pinhole for dripping oil. I also enjoy the fact that it has a safety lock/load feature (three parts must be aligned), however some people find it to be cumbersome, and those little pieces may break. Cost: $100.

If you're looking for something with more bells and whistles, Real Simple magazine recommends the Magimix 4200 XL. This $350 machine is made by the French company Robot Coupe (who developed the Cuisinart in the 1970s). Although it is quite large and takes up a lot of precious counter space, it comes with a wide feed tube, five disks, two blades, a whisk, and three bowls. There's also a box for storing the smaller parts and a twelve year warranty.

Two more, both under $60, so

Yum Market Finds: Useful Kitchen Tools

You have been doing an amazing job filling the Yum Market, on TeamSugar with fabulous food-related finds. As I was looking through it today, I noticed several functional, interesting everyday items that I just had to share. The first is a stainless steel soap bar. Redegg says she loves to give this as a gift to cooks because the steel eliminates the smell of garlic, fish, and other strong orders from your hands.

Two more so,

Vacuum Bag Ice Cream Holder

Sometimes the best products are the ones that are sitting right under your nose. This design group based out of Switzerland takes regular everyday objects and turns them into something else. For example, a funnel becomes a coat rack, tissues become tea bags, and my personal favorite, vacuum bags become an amazing ice cream cone holder. I actually don't speak German (is this even German?), so I'm not 100% sure what's going on. However, the products are pretty neat looking (if not somewhat surreal) and definitely worth checking out.
