If Michigan-bred Mitt Romney doesn't think Congress should bailout the auto industry, then the plan to save Detroit might need a set of jumper cables. Mitt wrote today: Without that bailout, Detroit will need to drastically restructure itself. With it, the automakers will stay the course — the suicidal course of declining market shares, insurmountable labor, and retiree burdens, technology atrophy, product inferiority, and never-ending job losses.

A recent CBS News/New York Times poll shows that 53 percent of Americans won't buy food that has been genetically modified. I can see where folks would be concerned, and wondered what you thought? Would you purchase food that had been genetically modified?

I remember coveting the old GM EV1, and assured my pals I was getting one as soon as I scrounged up enough money to make a purchase. They were so space-y and futuristic, how could I say no? And as you may have guessed, I was devastated when they disappeared from the roads completely!

Hyundai started it, and now Ford and GM have announced their own variations of Hyundai's offer designed to sell cars to a cautious population. While Hyundai's walkaway program offers to absorb car payments for three months and will accept a returned car without any additional payment if a buyer loses her job, Ford and GM have developed slightly different ideas for getting cars off the lots and into the hands of people worried about unemployment.
Ford's program includes paying $700 a month up to one year for new vehicles if buyers lose their jobs, while GM is offering to cover up to nine payments of $500 each in case of unemployment.

- Australia Leaves Iraq: Australia has ended its combat operations in Iraq. One of the first countries to commit troops to the war in Iraq five years ago, Prime Minister Kevin Rudd made a campaign promise to bring the troops home — and they're set to return in a couple of days. Pegging his decision on the actions of the previous government, Rudd said, "of most concern to this government was the manner in which the decision to go to war was made: the abuse of intelligence information, a failure to disclose to the Australian people the qualified nature of that intelligence."

Last year Lindsay Lohan made headlines for GM's fashion show since she exposed major side boob. This year LL was absent from the event perhaps since she was supposed to be recovering, or maybe she wasn't invited back. Who knows, but again GM was able to get a ton of celebs to show off their latest models in celeb fashion style.

As the 2007 Oscars fast approach, all the big names (and moderately small ones...not that I'm naming any names) are gathering in LA hoping to get invites to the myriad of fancy events. Last night's GM event was no exception. I'm not sure, though, which showboating jerkface felt the need to drive the red carpet (oh...I get it GM event...cars).

I am totally kvelling over this incredible travel case! Louis Vuitton has remodeled its classic vanity, the Trouville, and the result is the Vanity GM ($1,800). This gorgeous patent leather piece has a zippered closure, three inside pockets, an inside strap to secure bottles, a four-facet mirror and is embossed with monochromatic LV monograms throughout.

Aw, if you thought the red carpet of GM's event last night was fun -- the inside, runway and backstage were a veritable bonanza of excitement!!! And, I'm spent. But really though, the big names may have scurried past the red carpet (I'm looking at you Demi, Ashton, Penelope...) but they were snapped in the front row -- and boy does Ashton look thrilled.
