Although Thanksgiving is all about tradition, I love to take a quintessential holiday ingredient and add a new twist to it. Cranberry sauce is essential to turkey day, but it's time to move this berry over to dessert - with a white wine and ginger infused cranberry sorbet. Normally sorbet is served between courses to cleanse the palate. However, I like to offer it after the feast for guests who prefer something lighter and more refreshing than pumpkin pie. Sink Your Teeth Into Blood-Orange Sorbet

Inspired by the vampire-themed party, I decided to make my own bloody, yet delicious, treat. With Halloween only a few days away, I pulled out the ice-cream maker and started on a blood orange and mint sorbet - a perfect treat for your fangtastic friends! Although the last time I made ice cream, I had a problem with curdling custard, making this sorbet was easier and much less risky.

I started with a mint-infused simple syrup. While it cooled, I pulled out my glass citrus press (just like my grandmother had!) and hand-juiced the blood oranges. Even with the manual juicing, the whole process is quite quick and in only a few hours, I had refreshing and flavorful sorbet. I'm one of the masses who's taken great advantage of the ballooning tart frozen yogurt trend. I make a pit stop at downstairs darling SoGreen at least once a week. But when Häagen-Dazs sent me its latest tart natural frozen yogurt flavor, I wanted to see if swapping it out for SoGreen was a possibility. Could it be the new replacement for my expensive frozen yogurt habit? The answer, after the jump.

Ben & Jerry's Renames Flavor in Honor of Gay Marriage

Beginning today, a Vermont law recognizing gay marriage goes into effect - and, to celebrate, ice cream company Ben & Jerry's is renaming popular seller "Chubby Hubby." The new name? "Hubby Hubby."

While Ben & Jerry's isn't changing the labels on "Chubby Hubby" pints sold in stores - revising product labels takes 18 months - a wedding-themed truck will hand out free "Hubby Hubby" ice cream across the state today, including at the Vermont capitol. The creamery's six in-state ice cream parlors will also sell limited-edition "Hubby Hubby" sundaes during the month of September.

Still, the company, which has been known to rename its ice cream flavors after liberal causes, hasn't ruled out the idea of retailing "Hubby Hubby" in the future. “The legalization of marriage for gay and lesbian couples in Vermont is certainly a step in the right direction, and something worth celebrating with peace, love - and plenty of ice cream,” Ben & Jerry’s CEO explained.

According to a new survey by the Center for Culinary Development and Packaged Facts, certain comfort foods span generations from Baby Boomers to Generation X and Gen-Yers.
