At a blowout bash, like the costume party I am hosting this Saturday where the guest list tops 50, it's important to get a large amount of alcohol. I'll be buying a keg of easy-to-drink beer - Miller or Bud Light - that both guys and gals can enjoy.

Along with the beer, I'll serve a friend's recipe for deliciously dangerous punch that tastes so good you can hardly tell it's alcoholic. When my guests ask me what they can bring to the party, I'm suggesting they bring one of the alcohols used to make the punch. Lots of water and ice are also necessary to ward off evil hangovers. To ensure that the party flows smoothly, the keg and punch will be set up in different rooms.

Dangerously Delicious Punch
From Melicious

1 bottle white rum
1 bottle Southern Comfort
1 bag frozen mixed berries
1/2 liter bottle Sprite
6 small cans pineapple juice
Ice

Place all of the liquids in the fridge for several hours to chill.
Fill a large punch bowl with the rum, Southern Comfort, and berries. Let mixture sit for ten minutes (and up to two hours, chilled) to allow flavors to meld and the berries to infuse the alcohol.
Add the juice and sprite and ice. Stir to combine and serve.

Makes one punch bowl.

If you have never ordered or purchased a keg before, here are some helpful tips:

Locate a liquor store, beer store, or brewery near you that sells kegs and see what they have in stock.
Order yours at least three days before your event to ensure that you can pick it up the day of the party.

Kegs come in different sizes, so figure out how much beer you need. A pony keg (half keg) is 7.5 gallons and serves 27 people three 12-ounce servings. A full keg is 15.5 gallons and serves 55 people three 12-ounce servings.
Some stores deliver, but be sure to ask when you call to order your keg. If you do have to pick it up, make arrangements to have some heavy-lifters come with you.
Don't forget to bring your ID and money for a deposit when you pay for the keg.

Fat Tuesday, the biggest night of the Mardi Gras celebration in New Orleans, is less than a week away. To honor the day I'm going all out and hosting a blowout bash. I made a whole bunch of mask invites and sent them to everyone I know. I researched Mardi Gras foods and will be making three savory appetizers and two sweet appetizers. This isn't the type of party that you would bring your mom to, there is going to be drinking, dancing, and whatever else happens... Hurricane but you can call me sluricane... remember that song? The Click was talking about a cocktail, the Hurricane that originated in New Orleans. It's a delicious, dangerous drink that tastes like fruit punch. The Hurricane was invented during World War II at Pat O'Brien's bar in New Orleans and was named after the shape of a hurricane lamp. Pat O'Brien's bar is still open today in New Orleans' famous French Quarter and sells their original Hurricane cocktail mix at the bar. While I won't be able to get to Pat O'Brien's bar, I will be able to "transport" my guests and self there by making a giant batch of Pat's Hurricanes. The original recipe calls for passion fruit juice but I like to make my version with pineapple juice.

A group of Princeton punks decided to throw a keg party and not tell anyone that the brew was zero proof. So everyone drank, chugged, and had a gay, old time until the "alcohol" kicked in - then the real party started. Sober drunks are the worst.

Come Party With Me: Super Bowl - The Look

Meet Ryan and Alex. They are hosting a Super Bowl party and I'm teaching them how to make it the most fabulous bash ever. When decorating for the Super Bowl you have several options. You can select your team's colors, or like I did here, use brown and green - the colors of a football and field - to dictate the design scheme.

Keep things simple with paper plates, paper napkins, and classic keg cups. Serve the tacos in paper food trays and place the appetizers and dessert on white platters. Throw in some football confetti and call it a day! Since Alex and Ryan are cooking and supplying the beer, I'll surprise them with a host gift: The Book of Beer Pong. It's the perfect coffee table book for 20-something bachelors.

This week I'm helping my friends Ryan and Alex plan a Super Bowl party. While many in attendance will be excessively drinking beer from a keg, I've decided to whip up a beer cocktail for anyone who prefers something a little lighter.

Appropriately called Linebacker Limeade, this simple concoction is a mixture of Corona and limeade concentrate. The resulting drink is tart, frothy, and refreshing. To check out the recipe, read more.

Linebacker Limeade
From Everyday With Rachael Ray

Ingredients

Six 12-ounce bottles light-flavored beer, such as Corona
One 12-ounce can frozen limeade concentrate
Half a lime

Directions

In a large pitcher, combine the frozen limeade concentrate and beer.
Allow the foam to settle, then squeeze the lime half into the pitcher and stir. Pour into chilled glasses.

Serves 6.

Desperate Housewives Rundown, "Don't Walk on the Grass"

This week's episode of Desperate Housewives had a lot of the same themes as last week - Bree can't make up her mind about Orson, Katherine is crazy town, and Gaby's parenting skills fall under scrutiny. The trouble continues for Lynette, Tom, and their growing family, and for once the Bolens stay (mostly) out of trouble. It wasn't exactly filler, but it wasn't the juiciest episode we've seen either.

Bree: Bree's relationship with Karl comes to a head this week when he decides he's ready to take the next step just as she's dumping him. She's touched when he gifts her a brooch that was his grandmother's, though I found it hard to believe that it didn't even occur to Bree to question why Karl wouldn't have given the brooch to Susan, or even to Julie. After talking it over with Susan she decides to give Karl a sex-free trial period to determine whether or not she'll marry him - though Orson is one step closer to discovering her secret when he tries to do Bree a sweet favor.

Gaby: Gaby and Carlos are accused of bad parenting once again when Juanita drops what I assume to be an F-bomb during her school's Thanksgiving pageant. First off, she's seven and this is only the first time she's ever said that? Considering how much Gaby and Carlos allegedly swear, you'd think the kid would have mimicked her parents long before that. I had to agree with Gaby that the principal's punishment seemed a bit harsh for a seven-year-old, though Gaby's plan backfires when she pulls Juanita out of school. Here's the question: if the Solis's are back to being loaded again, can't they hire a tutor to help Juanita finish out the year? Regardless, I'm assuming that Gaby's lack of parental supervision is going to come to a head sometime in the very near future.

Lynette: While Lynette is busy hiding her pregnancy from her friends, Tom starts to embrace the lighter side of college living, aka gettin' fratty with his new nickname T-Scav. After a couple of incidents with his younger classmates, Lynette heads to a keg party and finds out that Tom is just doing the boys a favor in exchange for test answers. Lynette and Tom square off about lying to get ahead, and I'm on the fence about whose side I'm on. Tom has a point about Lynette needing to get off her high horse, but her actions still seem more justified to me than his do.

Susan/Katherine: Ugh. Is anyone else sick of Katherine yet? This time around she demands that Susan and Mike let her back into their social circle, threatening to sue Susan for shooting her if they don't oblige. Then she suddenly has a leaky faucet at 11p.m., and Susan discovers Katherine's ulterior motives when she sees the rose petals and bubble bath all set up in her den of seduction. I was glad that by the end Susan finally decides not to take any more of Katherine's blackmailing.

Angie: When Katherine isn't harassing Susan, she's busy barging into the Bolen house - you'd think with all the crime that Wisteria Lane has seen, someone would lock their doors every once in a while. Katherine is displeased when Angie doesn't want to be her new BFF and partner in crime, so she comes back later with a pineapple upside down cake, and of course gets an earful. By the end of the episode, it seems like Katherine is on to Angie's lie about her mother's death (not to mention how sketchy it is that the Bolens have a pre-paid cell phone). Is it possible that Katherine is shaping up to be even more dangerous than the Bolen family? At the end of the episode Angie is implicating Katherine in Julie's attack, which to me is pretty much proof that Angie may have done it herself - perhaps to get back at Julie for sleeping with her husband.

It's T minus two days until your big Halloween party! Since nobody wants to spend the entire night mixing cocktails, serve a punch. It's quenches the thirst of a crowd and is easy to make. All you have to do is dump the ingredients into a cauldron and stir. This potent concoction is a mixture of passion fruit vodka, cranberry juice, ginger ale, and sparkling apple cider. To achieve a smoldering affect, you'll have to get your hands on dry ice, but if you don't have time to seek it out, the punch is still enjoyable without the smoke. Wicked Witch Apple Punch

Ingredients

1 750 ml bottle Skyy Infusions Passion Fruit
1 750 ml bottle sparkling apple cider
1 64 oz. bottle cranberry juice cocktail
1 Liter ginger ale
2 cups pineapple juice
Red apple slices

Directions

Combine all ingredients in a large black witch’s cauldron with ice and stir.
Garnish with large slices of red apple floating on top and if desired, dry ice.

Serves 12-14.

Do Shows Like Gossip Girl Accurately Reflect College Life?

In an article in the New York Post today, real-life NYU students respond to Gossip Girl's depiction of NYU freshman orientation. What do they think of the show's fictional keg parties on rooftops, characters requesting who they want to room with to the Housing Office, and the notion that NYU is cheaper than Yale? (Here's a Buzz recap of this week's goings-on to refresh your memories!)

Although one blogger gives the thumbs up to the show's reference to an "Art & the World" class he actually took his freshman year at Tisch, another one disses the idea of a rooftop party. "Don't the writers know," he snipes, "that in NYU housing we're forbidden to peek outside of our windows for the slight chance that we might kill ourselves?"

Do shows like Gossip Girl and Greek reflect college experience (fairly) accurately or is it all just fun and fantasy?
