I'm a creature of habit and generally eat lunch every day at noon. That's when I get hungry, and it's a nice break time for me to look forward to in the morning. The fact that I naturally pop up and head to the kitchen right at noon has become a bit of a joke for those who sit around me, but I see all the same faces at the fridge, which leads me to believe many of us have a set dine time.

Basically I'll pick one dish, be it a soup or salad, that I can bring to work for lunch on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. Since I'm continuing with my ongoing efforts to eat healthy, last Sunday I threw together a hearty and filling black bean and quinoa salad.

An easy way to get healthy this year is resolving to bring your own lunch. By doing so, you know exactly what's going into your meal — not the case when eating out. Even something that seems healthy like a takeout salad can be full of hidden calories.

Banish cafeteria meals with some creative ideas that will have school kids looking forward to mom's lunchtime surprises. Now that your lil one has a lunch box that helps reduce waste throughout the year, fill it with food that he will want to gobble down, rather than toss. With a little forethought and a few tools, those lunch sacks will be filled with healthy meals that are the envy of everyone at the table.
