We all crave junk food every once in a while, but there are healthy substitutions out there. If you crave Spicy Nacho Doritios you should give the South of the Border Pistachios by Everybody's Nuts a try.
The flavor of these pistachios is as satisfying as the Doritos, but the nuts are so much healthier than corn chips, and nuts don't leave a neon coating on your fingers either.

Last night — only two months after a colossal peanut scare that led to a recall of more than 3,800 peanut products — the FDA recalled two million pounds of pistachios that have been distributed nationwide due to risk of a salmonella outbreak.
The new contamination concerns, which are not tied to the peanut products, were traced to pistachios grown by Setton Farms of Terra Bella, CA. One of Setton Farms' customers, Kraft Foods, alerted the FDA of its findings on March 24 after it discovered several strains of salmonella during routine analysis of its pistachio products.

Pork tenderloin may not be the first thing that comes to mind when barbecuing, but it's just as easy to grill as other meats like chicken breast. In this rendition, grilled lemon and pork tenderloin are served with broccoli rabe and pistachio couscous. As this cut of meat is fairly lean, it makes for a healthy, well-rounded meal.

I think of nuts as little nuggets of energy, since ounce per ounce they are one of the most nutritionally dense foods around. Nuts are high in protein, but unlike meat, they are low in saturated fat. Also absent from nuts – cholesterol.

Not only are pistachios fun to eat, but new research has found that these little nuts can also lower the LDL (bad) levels of cholesterol in your body. You know what that means - you can reduce your risk for developing cardiovascular disease.
Eating just one or two handfuls (1.5 - 3 oz) of pistachios is all it takes.

It's time to go nuts: today is National Pistachio Day! Pistachio nuts, according to FitSugar and Mireille Guillano (the author of French Women Don't Get Fat) are a great-on-the-go snack food. I always have a baggy of nuts in my desk at work, and in my car for an emergency hunger attack.

Since today is National Pistachio Day, I thought I would post an interesting recipe that highlights pistachios as the main flavor. Semifreddo literally translates to half cold in Italian, and in the culinary world it is generally a term for various chilled or partially frozen desserts - including cake, ice cream, fruit, or custard. In this case, it is like an ice cream that you can make without an ice cream maker (woo-hoo!).

Nipping on the heels of the ongoing peanut butter salmonella outbreak is a new scare in tainted nuts, and this time salty fingers are being pointed at pistachios. Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc. has recalled more than two million pounds of roasted pistachios shipped since last Fall, just fraction of the 55 million pounds processed by the company last year.

It's amazing that tiny nuts could cause so much trouble. Last week Setton Pistachio of Terra Bella Inc. recalled more than two million pounds of roasted pistachios shipped since last Fall, and now the recall has been expanded to include all raw nuts and all roasted nuts from the producer's 2008 crop.
