A Sugar staffer asked me the name of the yellow flowers in this image from my Etsy Finds: Votive Holders post. So I thought I'd quiz you all and see if you know it. Just a hint: the ones shown are dried flowers and they are pretty bright yellow in daylight.

Homeowners (and renters as well) tend to only install window boxes on the first floor of their houses. But I love the way the boxes of geraniums on this four-story white building look. On second thought, they're almost too healthy looking; they may be fake, and perhaps it wouldn't work on a more traditional house.

Orchids are some of my favorite flowers and make beautiful houseplants. But their delicate shapes and colors also translate really well to housewares and artwork, making an ideal purchase for those lacking a green thumb. From orchid pillows and paintings to orchids made from felt and recycled materials, check out my slideshow to see orchids in every form.

I love the look of ivy climbing on the exterior of a house. But if your walls are weakly mortared, there's potential for the ivy to damage them. Do you have ivy growing on your house?

True, the Envi is a planter, but it's also another very practical home product. Can you tell me what this planter doubles as? (Hint: you'd find one in your kitchen.)

Fall's coming and although we've tackled poisonous Summer wildflowers, that season's (sadly) almost done. Let's get into the Fall spirit by looking at more flowers — each of these either begin blooming in autumn or continue through September (or later!) in some climates, so check out the pretty plants and see how well you do!

I have been following David Horvitz's blog for a few months or so. For all of 2009 (not necessarily every day, but frequently), he sends out small texts of simple instructional ideas through his mailing list, and then posts screenshots of them on his blog. Many of his instructions involve mailing things to far-off addresses, like "Take a photo of your head in the freezer and mail it to a museum in Greenland that has no current exhibition."

A whopping 72 percent of you said you keep potted plants on your windowsill. So it's about time we all give our growing greenery a nicer home. Lose the ubiquitous terracotta planters and consider this Wood Windowsill Planter ($40).
