I recently introduced you to interior designer Miles Redd, who I said got his start in the design world decorating his own apartment and those of his friends. You got a glimpse of his portfolio, which is full of cozy, cluttered, and glamorous homes that approach traditional elegance with practicality. Lucky for you, New York Social Diary recently interviewed Redd in his home and shared photos to prove it.

Interior designer Miles Redd got his start working as an assistant to decorator Bunny Williams, and using his own East Village shoe box and friends' apartments as canvases for developing his own particular brand of cozy glamour. In 1998, he opened his own design office in NoHo, creating comfortable, elegant interiors to suit his clients' personalities, opting a practical approach to traditional formality. Ten years later, he's built a diverse portfolio ranging from a Miami Beach condominium to a farmhouse in the South of France, and has been featured in New York, Vogue, House Beautiful, Elle Décor, House & Garden, W, and Country Life, and was an influence to the bright young mind of Nick Olsen.

While it's not my style, I do admire interior designer Miles Redd's use of this leopard print runner on these highly polished stairs. And who can turn up her nose at the playful animal theme that's echoed in the clawfoot console table?

For 20 years, Elle Decor's chic issues have offered readers ideas and inspiration for their homes. I've been collecting a giant stack of dog-eared Elle Decor issues for the last 10 years, so I'm excited to announce that the best of the magazine can now be found in Style and Substance ($45) by Margaret Russell and the editors of Elle Decor. I was thrilled to receive a (personally autographed!) copy of Style and Substance in my mailbox, and couldn't wait to review the book.

The Washington Post recently caught up with Nick Olsen, a protégé of high-profile interior designer Miles Redd and former "Deal Hunter" for Domino's now-defunct blog, Daily Dose. The 27-year-old designer has been discount decorating since his teens, and working under Redd for five years. In other words, he knows a thing or two.

Last month, we introduced you to the semifinalists for the 2009 James Beard Awards. This morning, the short list of final nominees was unveiled, and the winners of the awards — nicknamed the "Oscars of the food world" — will be revealed at an awards gala at Manhattan's Lincoln Center on May 4. In addition to the highly anticipated nominations for outstanding restaurateur, outstanding chef, and outstanding restaurant, among others, the foundation's other honors — in cookbooks, newspaper writing, restaurant design, and blogs — were also announced.

If you're thinking about redecorating your kitchen, take a tip from designer Miles Redd, whose home was recently featured on Domino. Here, he extended the wallpaper to fit across the backsplash, which unifies the space while providing an unexpected visual quirkiness. You can find similar wallpaper to this from the wide-striped paper from the walls to the backsplash to unify the room.
