If you haven't jumped on the composting bandwagon yet, now might be a good time to start: composting is slowly but surely being written into the law. Last week, San Francisco, CA, became the first US city to pass a bill requiring mandatory recycling of food scraps. The legislation, which takes effect this Fall, asks all of the city's residents and businesses — including restaurants — to compost food scraps.

June is LGBT Pride Month. Here in San Francisco, we're at the epicenter of it all right now as it's SF Pride weekend. In honor of the events and parades held around the world this month in order to "educate the world, commemorate our heritage, celebrate our culture, and liberate our people," here are my favorite stories we've covered with similar intentions here on TrèsSugar.

If you checked out my preview of Metropolitan Home's Modern by Design Showhouse and Cool Idea slideshow, you no doubt noticed plenty of crave-worthy furnishings throughout. There were also plenty of cheap and chic elements that added to the high-design aesthetic but didn't cost an arm and a leg. There are many ideas you can easily replicate in your own home.

Public tours of Metropolitan Home's Modern by Design show home in San Francisco kick-off tomorrow. If you don't live in the City by the Bay, hopefully you've had a chance to check out my photos from my sneak preview tour of the home. You can't help but notice that the digs are dripping floor to ceiling in luxurious furnishings and artwork, but spending big bucks isn't what got the designers on the radar of Met Home; they have some savvy tricks up their sleeves.

Yesterday, I toured Metropolitan Home's Modern by Design showhome in San Francisco, a historic, 7,700-square-foot house in the heart of the exclusive Pacific Heights neighborhood, which has been transformed into an exquisite example of contemporary design with the help of a savvy developer and a handful of the country's top designers.
The house, known as "Baker Acres," was originally built in 1904 as a single-family home, but over the years has served as a boarding house for service men and women, a guest house for recent graduates and San Francisco transfers, and a hotel. Along the way, the building's exquisite architectural details, grand rooms, and dramatic staircase were destroyed, and the home was stripped down to a shell.

On a recent weekend, I had the opportunity to attend Sunset's Celebration Weekend, an outdoor event dedicated to all things lifestyle, from gardening to home improvement to, of course, food. The festival, which took place under a shining sun at Sunset magazine's headquarters in Menlo Park, CA, featured cooking demos from chefs like Cindy Pawclyn, Jamie Lauren, and Aaron McCargo, Jr.; composting seminars from Sunset editors; wine tastings; and vendors selling fresh greens, molés, and gelato. There was tons of food and drink to sample: I spotted everything from grilled sausages to watermelon beer to the tallest strawberry daiquiris known to man.

On Sunday night I found myself at Cochon 555, a one-night roving food festival that celebrates all things pork. While I made the rounds trying everything from pork head to bacon-Rice Krispie treats, I thought, "wow, I'm an adventurous eater!" Take this plate for example.
