On Tuesday, I revealed what Barack Obama would be eating for his last supper before the big day. Many of you were impressed by the elegant-sounding menu — but in particular, you were dreaming of the dessert, a warm sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream.
Our stars must be aligned: for my favorite uncle's birthday last weekend, I made this dream of a cake from a recipe in Sheila Lukins's stellar new book, Ten.

No dessert says TV dinner more than a dish that features warm fruit and cool ice cream. While a pie or cobbler are delicious selections, wow guests at a season premiere party (or any party for that matter!) with this to-die-for apple cake.
Complete with toffee crust, fresh apple filling, and rich butterscotch sauce, it's luxurious and comforting — sort of like a glam, grown-up sister to apple pie.

I love it when the fine line between breakfast and dessert is blurred. In this case I think it may have been obliterated altogether. Dark chocolate, roasted almond and toffee chunk scones, surely that must be dessert...

Though some parents do not require their kids to keep Passover's dietary laws, the holiday's central food item — matzoh — is something that can be enjoyed by any tot comfortable eating solid foods. As a replacement for bread, or chametz, matzoh is transformed into many forms throughout the holiday - from matzoh balls (dumplings in soup), and farfel (stuffing) to matzoh brei (omelette) and desserts. In an effort to transform a sheet of matzoh into a sweet Passover snack, a friend and her baker-in-training got to work on some choco-toffee matzoh that allowed him to use his preschool creativity when adding toppings to the scrumptious treat.

Someone get me Halle Berry's phone number, because I want to know all of her fountain-of-youth secrets. At the Keep a Child Alive Black Ball in NYC, she had heads turning to get a glimpse of her in that super-sexy cutout cocktail dress. I love how her mismatched earrings play off of her short, tousled pixie cut, and the warm brown and salmon-pink tones of her makeup create a glowing effect.
