Although I don't consider myself the most patriotic person, I love a good 4th of July celebration! With its warm weather, barbecue dinner, and fireworks finish, chances are you enjoy the nation's birthday party, too. If you haven't decided what to serve your family and friends, consider whipping up a meal that is all-American.

Corn dogs may not hit the spot for everyone, but how can one resist a warm, smoky chili dog, especially around Memorial Day? Gather up a group of your favorite friends and dress up some dogs. Throw together a 15-minute chili topping, or take the time to make your own chili and homemade coleslaw.

Over the past few months, I've been testing recipes from Tyler Florence's recent cookbook: Dinner At My Place $13.57.
Although Florence has penned several other cookbooks, this one has a particularly intimate feeling because it includes his family's favorite recipes along with great menus for dinner parties.

Everything tastes better with bacon and brussels sprouts are no exception. For some reason, I normally only have brussels sprouts at holidays meals, but this tasty vegetable beckons to be eaten more often.
With the cold front that came through San Francisco, it was a perfect weekend to test Tyler Florence's comforting brussels sprouts hash.

A salad of roasted beets with crumbly goat cheese and a delicious vinaigrette is a pretty common dish on menus these days. While I've had my fair share of this scrumptious salad, when browsing Dinner at my Place, I was intrigued by Tyler Florence's variation because he uses raw beets.
In their raw state, beets are difficult to peel; even on a mandoline, they were a little cumbersome to thinly slice, but the rest of salad is simple and worth the effort.

Tyler Florence — best known for his approachable recipes, affable demeanor, and, of course, strapping good looks — turns 38 today. To honor the Food Network host, cookbook author, and celebrity chef (who was just spotted at the South Beach Wine and Food Festival) I've put together a quiz full of TyFlo fun facts. What do you know about the charismatic food figure?

This weekend was nothing but rain and the perfect time for comfort food. Browsing through Tyler Florence's Dinner at My Place, I found myself drooling over a whole roasted chicken recipe. Since the weather was bad, I didn't want to leave the house, thus I improvised his recipe with items I already had on hand.

During rainy season, which is happening in the Bay Area as we speak, I'm forever trying to cure a sense of bone-chilling dampness. Right now, my favorite way to fend off the cold is with a rich, steaming hot platter of beef stroganoff. It can either be fast and easy, or the picture of slowly cooked succulence.
