At a dinner party over the weekend, I tried Cahill Porter Cheese — an Irish cheddar cheese marbled with malty, bittersweet porter beer. Strangely enough, the mild taste of the cheddar cheese perfectly complements the caramel, chocolatey flavor of the beer. Some guests did not enjoy it, but I can't stop thinking about how it would make a unique, tasty grilled cheese sandwich.

Recently I was sent a box of meals by Freshology. Like the Zone, Freshology is a diet delivery program that helps celebrities lose weight and eat healthy. I was given four days worth of packaged meals in containers that resembled airplane food. Although the food was made "fresh," I was disappointed. Iceberg lettuce? Soy chicken? Not the tastiest or most nutritious of ingredients, especially when they were packaged three days earlier. Still, the meal plan could be great for someone who doesn't like or have time to cook. What do you think? Would you want to try Freshology?

Last week I couldn't stop gushing about Ike's Place, my new favorite sandwich joint in town. Well, this weekend, I made a return trip there and tried one of their new offerings, an election-minded sandwich called The Palin. Generously sized for its $8.98 price tag, The Palin was jam-packed with shredded chicken breast, deep-fried mozzarella sticks, blue cheese, and Frank's Red Hot Sauce. While I wished there had been a little less hot sauce, I thought the result was one heavenly mess.

Because I grew up with the mantra that it's healthy to "eat the colors of the rainbow," the flowers' vibrant hues were enticing to my palate. I'm an adventurous eater, but I could imagine a picky eater not being too fond of the idea. Have you ever tried edible flowers?

Love It or Hate It: Fruit Molds

The other day I came across an online store that carries cucumber molds. Apparently, cucumbers can now be sliced into cute hearts, stars, and other shapes. Seeing this new Japanese invention reminded me of the square watermelon, another fruit mold designed in Japan to make watermelon easier to stack and store. While fruit molds are entertaining, I'm not sure I'd ever want pyramid mangoes or heart-shaped cantaloupes in my supermarket; the unnatural shapes would simply be too weird for me to eat! Recently our very own Nancita made a culinary pilgrimage to Minneapolis. She went on a quest for one of the nation's most infamous hamburgers, the Jucy Lucy. Created at a small, no-nonsense eatery, Matt's Bar, the Jucy Lucy is a hamburger with a molten cheese core. From the outside the burger looks like any old burger, but following the first bite, a stream of gushing, melted American cheese makes this burger far from ordinary. After seeing her pictures, I'm eager to make my own Jucy Lucy journey. How about you?

Adventurous Cookbook Gets the Ball Rolling

When I need culinary inspiration, I turn to one of many cookbooks. But unless I'm feeling extraordinarily creative, I'm not sure I'll be turning to the latest cookbook to hit the circuit. The Testicle Cookbook: Cooking With Balls was just published by Ljubomir Erovic. Erovic is a chef in Serbia, a country where testicles are a prized delicacy. In the mood for goulash? Then why not experiment with a testicle version? Love pizza? Make his cheese, onion, pepper, bacon, and bull's testicle pizza. Of course, the art of eating testicles is nothing new: around the world, they've long been touted as aphrodisiacs.

According to Erovic, who organizes an annual testicle-cooking championship, the tastiest testicles come from bulls, ostriches, and stallions, although he claims, "All testicles can be eaten. Except human, of course."

On tonight's episode of Bizarre Foods With Andrew Zimmern the host heads to Sicily where he is greeted by a variety of odd foods, including sardine meatballs, artichoke ice cream, and cow spleen sandwiches. The spleen is boiled in a vat of fat before being topped with cheese and tucked inside two slices of bread. Although the word spleen sort of grosses me out, I'm adventurous and would love to try the sandwich. How about you? Watch the video and let me know, would you eat a spleen sandwich?

At a recent outdoor festival, a friend of mine ordered this sandwich, called the "Gutbuster," from a barbecue stand. The soft bun was piled with three kinds of meat — beef brisket, pulled pork, and beer-braised bratwurst — and topped with spicy sauce. Though it looks kinda gross, I have to admit that it was full of delicious flavor. Would you dare to bust your gut with this monstrosity?

On a recent dining adventure, Joe at Serious Eats passed up the carnitas tacos in favor of a taco filled with chapulines, a variety of grasshopper that is a prized delicacy in Oaxacan Mexican cuisine. As long as I didn't think about where it came from, the sensual description of the chapulines as "crunchy, nutty, and slightly salty" had me craving one! As soon as I heard that Jack in the Box was debuting these Cheesy Macaroni Bites, I knew I had to try them. Macaroni and cheese is my favorite comfort food, and I love trying the latest flavor of any item to come out of the deep fryer.I almost had a heart attack when I learned what the calories were on this tiny snack, (although it could have been that my arteries were already filling up with saturated fat). Still, the petite wedges — with their gooey, cheesy interior and crispy, golden, battered exterior — were delicious. In the future, I think I'd have a hard time enjoying them without feeling sharp pangs of guilt. What do you think: Would you be able to enjoy them?

Recently at Waterbar, here in San Francisco, I ordered the fish & chips. I was blown away when the waiter brought out an entire rock cod — eyes, fins and all! The fish was battered and deep-fried whole for my eating pleasure. I immediately began to dig in, but some of my friends sharing the gigantic entrée were a little more hesitant. How about you? I'm not afraid to admit it, PartySugar and I actually chowed through this plate of nachos. It was late, we were waiting for a plane, and we were hungry. And as always, nachos sounded great. When they arrived we were disappointed by the canned cheese, the ice cream scoop of sour cream, the rubbery chicken, and the processed guacamole, but that didn't stop us. Tell me, would it have stopped you, or would you have eaten these nachos?

One of the hottest new restaurants in town is becoming well known for its charcuterie plate. The last time I was there I ended up with the plate in the photo. I loved every bit of it, but my friend was a bit squeamish about the white proscuitto on the left. It looked too fatty and she refused to eat it. Last week before interviewing Marcus Samuelsson, I ate his African spiced lamb chops and mango lime couscous. The pairing was delicious: the meat was moist and succulent and the couscous flavorful and exotic. While the ingredients were not grossly insane, the method for eating the dish was out of the ordinary. There were no serving utensils and the chef requested that we eat the lamb while using the bone to scoop the couscous out of the bowl. I greatly enjoyed sucking on the lamb bone as it doubled as a spoon, however I can understand how some people might not be interested in eating without utensils. Do you have a problem with it?

I recently went out to dinner and found an intriguing dish on the appetizer menu: bone marrow served with little toasts. A long, skinny spoon is used to scoop the marrow out of the bone. It can be spread on the toast, or eaten alone. The flavor is surprisingly delicious and rich. It's a bit oily, but the texture is smooth. Similar to paté's flavor palate (only not so livery), bone marrow is a rare treat that I highly recommend. What do you think, could you eat bone marrow?

Recently I found something shocking in my parents' refrigerator: It was a small box labeled pasteurized process cheese spread, in a spinach and artichoke flavor. I thought the box was a joke, but was disturbed to learn my dad wanted to try it. Although I love Velveeta and occasionally enjoy a slice of Kraft American cheese, I was a little nervous by the blatant "pasteurized process" label. I didn't end up tasting it, would you?

Since I'm all about finding new ways to enjoy strawberries, I recently ordered a cornmeal-crusted pizza topped with classic tomato sauce, sweet berries, feta cheese, and mint. Admittedly, the flavor combo was a bit incongruous on a pizza, but I'd definitely order it again. My only complaint was that the delicate strawberries were nearly overwhelmed in the context.
