Every now and then I crave and eat an entire Caramello, so when YumSugar proposed her I Heart Candy challenge I figured I'd make a homemade version of a Caramello. However homemade caramel involves an entire hour of constant stirring, so I brainstormed and was immediately reminded of an old childhood favorite: Heath bar cake!
A Heath bar is a thin slab of English toffee covered with smooth milk chocolate. Made with a boxed cake mix, this dessert comes together in no time and can be masterfully assembled by any inexperienced cook. With layers of sweetened condensed milk, creamy caramel sauce, and clouds of pillowy whipped cream topped off with chunks of the classic Heath candy bar, this is one recipe that you have to try. Take a look at just how easy it is, read more

Heath Bar Cake
From Epicurious Forum
1 box of German chocolate cake mix
1 can of sweetened condensed milk
1 bottle or jar of caramel
1 tub of Cool Whip
4 Heath or Skor bars, crushed
- Bake cake as directed according to box.
- Poke holes about the size of a pencil all over the top of the cake.
- Drizzle the milk and caramel over the cake, making a thin layer.
- Refrigerate until completely cool. Cover with Cool Whip. Sprinkle the Heath or Skor bars.
Serves 8-10.
PartySugar's Notes: Instead of using cool whip (I felt guilty about making a cake from a box) I made whipped cream. Beat 1 1/2 cups heavy whipping cream with 1 tablespoon vanilla, and 2 heaping tablespoons powdered sugar until stiff peaks form. I also used one extra Heath bar.

So I had the good fortune to be in the Kitchen while the lovely and talented yum ladies were taking the above picture. Got lucky enough to get a slice of this thing before it was completely hoovered by the rest of the team here....and I can say: O M G was that good!!
1when partysugar told me she was making a heath bar cake, I thought, sweet it'll be a nice afternoon treat. Little did I know it would be an AMAZING afternoon treat. seriously simple and wonderfully delicious. Actually don't make this one, you'll feel real guilty after you've devoured the whole thing 15 seconds later.
2so if i made this i'm pretty sure i'd eat almost the whole thing before i could serve it to anyone lol. this is looks so yummy!
3I thought it said "health" bar cake, and I saw the cake and went WTF!?

4This was pretty tasty, I have to say! I'm surprised that the recipe isn't more complicated.

6I loved this! And I love the simple, down-to-earth ingredients. What a wonderful afternoon snack!

19A girl I work with makes this all the time & it's SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO yummy. And it's pretty easy to make too.
20yummy i could just go for a slice right now
21I make this for my twin brother's birthdays every year, but I use butterfingers, chocolate syrup, butterscotch syrup, and caramel syrup. They love it. Super easy and tres magnifique!
22Yummy
23Paula Deen calls this recipe "Better than Sex? Yes!" it's in her cookbook and it's my bf's favorite dessert!
24This looks soooooo yummy! My husbands birthday was on Monday! Too bad, I could have made this for him!
25Bookmarking! I love caramel.
BTW, do you blend the mild and caramel together, or do you layer it?
26hmm, this sounds strangely familiar. maybe because I already posted it back in January!

Purplesugar looks like I missed your post! I made this cake for YumSugar's I Heart Candy challenge because it includes heath bars. Have you tried any variations on yours? People have been suggesting using chocolate syrup, what do you think?
28Gosh, Id love a slice right now.
29No problem partysugar! I doubt using chocolate syrup would ruin this masterpiece, but I love it with the caramel, so I always make it this way! Oh, and did you see in my post that they sell Heath already crushed? That truly makes it the easiest recipe ever!
30i really think that purple and party should each make another Heath Bar Cake and let me be the judge
31I've made this many times but never with caramel as well as the condensed milk. It is freakin awesome w/out the caramel, so I can only imagine what happens when you add it! I will have to make this asap!
32p.s. - sorry if this has been said, but some grocery stores carry heath bar already crunched up... Saves some time and effort.
33p.p.s. - don't feel guilty about using cool whip, this is a down home cake and requires it! ha ha. Can you tell I'm slightly into this cake???!
34Hahaha!! I did the same Rinoakes! I was looking at the picture going "that doesn't look healthy......". I've never heard of heath bars
But that cake really looks yummy
35oh sweet lord, that looks SO good, and i have to go grocery shopping soon. i think i'll have to pick up those ingredients and make this later!
36God damn it!! I did the same thing as Rinoakes and Gruaig Rua! I clicked on the link it was because I thought it said "Health Bar Cake" and I've never seen anything "healthy" look that scrumptious! How wrong I was. Not only am I extremely disappointed but I now have a HUGE chocolate cake craving and no means of satisfying it.
37I used to make this, but we called it "better than sex cake"
38Just looking at that makes me want better then sex cake
I love it!
39I think when we make it we put chocolate and caramel on it?? I cant remember for sure tho...
40Party sugar, I have just one thing to say....I LOVE YOU!!!!
41To die for. I made this after seeing this recipe, and people went GAGA for it - totally amazing.
42I wonder if these could be made into cupcakes?
43Looks yummy. My friend made something like this, but it was even easier! She used Little Debbie Swiss Rolls for the cake and layered it w/ the cool whip and heath bits...it was sooo good.
44I made it today, it's delicious! Next time I will attempt to make heath bar cupcakes...
45OMG IT LOOKS SOOO GOOD!! I WANNA MAKE THIS ONE!
46I'm making this next week!! i havent had this cake in years.. it is by far one of the best cakes ever!
47this cake is so good i used heath toffee bits instead of heath bars.
